I was perusing some OLD knife mags (92 or so) at a friend's house and came upon an article on "improving" the ole Ka-Bar USMC knife. The guy ground off the top of the hilt and just left the bottom part and took 3 pages to tell how much better it was.

As I looked at the pictures, I thought "gee, that looks FUNNY" and then it HIT me. I rushed home (after stayin with em for 3 days) and got out this old beater that I have had since before I can even remember getting it.

I ....had.... a Ka-Bar and sold it because it felt awkward. So did this old thing but I kept it because it takes a gawdawful sharp edge and HOLDS it. But....I took some Vise Grips and BENT the top of the hilt.

Golly gee! It's BETTER, kids! Probly even still have the Ka-Bar if I had thought of it then. Feels better, cuts better, even LOOKS better (to me) and I didn't even use up the whole 3 pages.

No, I sold my Ka-Bar. I have NO idea who made this thing. It is tough, unbranded, thick, sharp, and I put an edge on the clip point that is so sharp that I accidentally skewered my wrist REAL bad.

I......think...... I got it when I was 15 in 1955. Allus wanted a HUNTIN knife so this is what I thought one was.

It makes a superb fighter for my imaginary defense of the living room when watching TV (after making sure the door is locked)

:D

The Camillus and Ontario versions of the Marine Combat/Utility M2 feature a straight crossguard, which is okay, but the KA-BAR version was always a bit peculiar to me, as the quillons of the guard actually droop towards the hand, which is a tad awkward.

By buddy Carl took his KA-BAR and simply bent the top quillon the opposite way (much as Levan did with his knife), so that, ergonomically, it acts the same as the guard on the Camillus M3 Trench Knife, or the A-F. Easy to do.
