Hello everyone,.

Can one of you kind fellows please tell me if the Lansky Curved Blade Hones, will be adequate in re profiling and maintaining a useable working edge on a BM710 in D2,.

Thanks and Respect.

Kris,.

Those appear to be corundum/aluminum oxide hones. For reprofiling D2, they might be a bit slow (small hone size & contact area impacts this the most); even slower if they glaze up (surface worn too smooth to be effective) like some AlOx hones can do.

Having said that, if care is taken to keep the hones lubricated with some honing oil, and the pressure is kept reasonable and not excessively heavy, they could still get the job done. Main thing is to keep the hones from glazing, as they'll virtually stop working altogether if they do glaze up.

For touch-ups and light sharpening, they should be fine.

They will work Kris but I have found that diamond hones work better for me with D2.

That would be my first choice also, for D2; especially for re-bevelling and similar heavy grinding jobs. I don't know if Lansky offers these 'Curved Blade' hones in diamond, but I'd hope they did. Could be a LOT more useful, if so.

Thanks Dave and Rich,

Rich I was asking aboot the curved hones because the BM710 has a re curve blade.

In the absence of lansky curved diamond hones, would Spydercos Sharpmaker be the one for maintaining the factory edge on the 710 in D2?

Kris,.

The Sharpmaker should be fine for that. With the supplementary diamond or CBN rods, it'd also work for heavier grinding, like re-bevelling.
