I was inspired to ask here from the Crosman thread I got his in a trade not long ago and I haven't decided whether or not if I want to keep it. My last rifle was a RWS Model 34 and that was a long time ago so I am not completely new to shooting air guns but I am new to the Nitro Piston models. My understanding is it takes a few hundred rounds to break them in. Heavier pellets are the way to go with these types of rifles and of course clean the barrel after every 250 rounds. So has anyone shot or used this type of rifle ? Any thoughts or advice would be appreciated. I should add if I do decide to keep it I would be mostly just target shooting with it Thanks in advance.

Overall a good gun with a quiet shot cycle. Only gripe I have heard about these is the picatinny rail being welded on crooked on some guns. Get a straight edge out and check. You may need adjustable scope rings to compensate. The GRT III trigger works with these, so if you want an excellent aftermarket trigger that's the one to get. It is a baffled barrel, be careful when cleaning that you don't pack them full of crud. Should shoot in the 720-740fps range with crosman premiers.

I read about the rails also mines dead on my only problem with this rifle is it's a little long for me. Not the end of the world though.

Also, you don't necessarily need heavier pellets, just no lighter than normal. 14gr or so. Maybe pick up a sampler pack if you're going to do target shooting, find which pellet it likes best. One of mine really likes Meisterkugelns, stacks them all day long (or as long as I can).

I know with the gas ram guns some people were fussing over turning the ram around claiming the body is lighter than the ram, giving higher velocity, but most I have seen ended up giving no difference after a lot of work.
