Bent Barstock Help!

I'm in my first year of knifemaking and have encountered a new challenge. I have some 440c and D2 barstock that arrived with a bend in it. It's hardly worth the cost and time to ship it back to the vendors I purchased it from so I was wondering if anyone had advice on how to straighten it? I would appreciate any advice on how to deal with this problem.

How bent is bent? Slight warp or at 45 degrees? Also, how long is the stock? A slight bend in a 36" piece is easy, a warp in a 10" piece can be troublesome without intervention.

when I have bent, warped, twisted stock, I heat, and beat until it's where I want it if it's real bad. If it's only slight, I chuck it in the vise and tweak until it works for me.

More info and maybe a pic or 2 will help.

Thanks Charlie! The warped pieces are 18" and 24" and it is a slight bow. I'll give the vise a try this weekend and will resort to heat if that doesn't work.

Go ahead and cut your knives out, then straighten them if necessary. This is easier for me compared to straightening the whole bar.

open your vise slightly more then the stock is thick
insert an inch and pull then move it in for another inch and pull...continue until you have reached the middle of the bar
turn around and do the same on the other side.

first you might think it doesn´t work BUT when you get the feeling on how much to pull it will end up perfectly straight..
blacksmith told me this a week ago when I got crooked steel bars..worked just fine

but make sure you don´t pull too much right away get a feeling for it first

after that cut your blanks and if it´s not as straight as you want use a rubber hammer and a straight edge to check ...good luck..
