My blades normally don't bend when I HT but for some reason This one did. On the few I did straighten I used the vice and 3 steel short steel rods. 2 on either side of the bend and one at the Apex. I broke a blade doing this once and don't want to break this one. I also don't want to hammer if possible. It has good sharp grindlines. Any ideas. I'll temper tonight and straihten tomorrow.

Oh, It's too much to grind out:mad: :barf: :barf: :barf:

Maybe wooden dowel rods instead of steel would make it easier on the knife when you bend it?

Bob Egnath used to teach the three rods with sharp heat only on the spot where the bend was after placing some tension on the blade. It works very well on single edged blades without hurting the edge temper.Frank Niro

Thanks everyone, I got it and didn't need to worry. I don't think my bow has as much flex as that thing has. Chang Had a pretty good idea with the wood. I made a jig out of angle iron, 8" long and slotted it on either end for 3 inches. That way I could change the pressure points. I used another block of wood on the other jaw of the vice. It was 1X1 and had the face rounded. I straightend it just like I would an arrow!!!  :)

I've read that it is best to straighten the blades in the manner you have mentioned with the blade at tempering heat rather than cold. Don't know if it would help because I haven't tried it personally, might be something to look into.
