Suddenly I saw the clip blade on my stockman was bent a 5th of an inch from the tip. I bought it in a hardware store in Scranton in 2004 and it is like a good luck charm and a usable souvenir. Be that as it may, do you think there's something wrong with the steel? I bent it, I think, when I used it a bit harshly trying to whittle sticks from a wretched log of fire wood. I bent it back, so should I just continue having it in my pocket, or should I retire it?

Regards Erik

Sometimes a tip will bend. Sometimes you can straighten it and sometimes it will break off when you try to straighten it.
I'm trying to picture whittling sticks from a wretched log. Did you pry with it?

Anyway, if it's a good luck charm you should carry it, and if it works for you you should use it, in my humble opinion.

I’d just use it, bend the blade if you like, or not. Either way a Schrade was built to be used.

Yes, I have a drawer full of slipjoints, but it is my favorite one. If I break it some day, l can keep it as pure memorabilia. I actually managed to bend it back so it is almost impossible to see the difference. It is just that I know, silly but true.

I'm with everyone else here... Keep using it, especially if you were able to straighten it out.

My guess is: If the tip didn't break when you bent it back, (a) You have much better luck than I, and (b) the tip probably won't leave unless you bend the tip again, or twist it off.
I'd use it.

Which Schrade stockman is it? 8OT?

Heck there's nothing wrong with that, even if the tip broke off there'd still be a lot of life left in it. Tell you what; if it does break off just send it to me and I'll re-profile a new tip on it for you.

Medium stockman, 34OT perhaps, called middleman I think

I've kept the wear pretty even. Here's a picture where you can see where the point is now.

Most of the wear is on the sheepsfoot, which is the one I use most. It's about 2/3 of the original width.

That point used to be well below the frame. I've lowered it a few times.

This is what it looked like when I bought it.
