Bent blade tip

Sitting here at the computer I wiped the blade of my new (60 day old) small sebenza on my blue jeans and heard a scratching sound. It turned out to be the tip of the blade had bent over slightly to one side. I took the bent edge off with the fine white sharpmaker ceremic stone. I have hardly used the knife and never stabbed or pryed anything. It's still razor sharp. Any comments on this would be appreciated since this was my first experience with this problem on a high end knife. I have several Microtech, benchmades and another large sebenza and have not seen this happen. Could the steel be softer than it should be? It only took a few strokes on the stone to remove the burr. Any comments?

Had you looked at the knife close before where you would have noticed this? Just thinking it somehow could have been done before you bought it. Otherwise, even if the steel was soft you would have still had to put some pressure on it to bend it.

Legal Disclaimer: I know absolutely nothing about steel hardness, except that proper hardness (whatever that is) is a good thing.

Sorry to take so long to respond on this one - a burr on the tip of the blade is not the way the knife is supposed to be and it does sound as if it could have been dropped at some point in its life! Although we can't be 100% (we can be 99.99%!) sure that it left the shop that way, it is most unlikely. Did you get the knife directly from us? Could it be that it has always been like this but you hadn't noticed? That might indicate that it had been dropped before you got it since you are sure you had not dropped it!

I have mentioned before that diagnostics via a computer can be rather tricky - without seeing the knife and hardness testing it, we can't give a specific answer. We would be more than happy to hardness test the blade if it is a concern to you - just send it back to us!

Thanks Anne, I got this knife new from James Mattis about two weeks before his death. I am sending my Large Classic in for the double thumb stud and may send this small standard in for you to check the blade tip and the blade alignment. It seems to be a little off center when closed. I do believe that I just didn't notice the tip because I never dropped it.
