Dropped my Leek, and apparently bent the tip... again! I don't want to send it in, is there any way I can fix it myself?

I don't have any sort of stones, though I'm looking at getting an Extra Fine/Fine diamond stone soon enough (or 4 inch Coarse, Fine, and Extra fine, because I'm not sure I can bring myself to pay $45 for the extra fine/fine when I can get all of those in smaller sizes for $30).

Mental note: Get a knife with better blade steel and a sturdier tip!

You could pound it straight but it would never be as strong.
Just take a file to it...

Hmm... seems to me the best thing would be to send it in... I JUST sent it in like 2 weeks ago and had it replaced though... dang.

New Graham needs to get the knife I want in stock!

What sucks is, that the only place that has the knife AND diamond stones I want has a $20 higher price for the knife and wont price match... I guess I can pay shipping 2 times over :o

what knife do you want, the 42?

You have a good memory :)

While you're here, what do you think about me getting three 4 inch stones -- coarse, fine, extra fine, or just F/EF -- instead of:

Nobody has that one except for them, and it's $45 with shipping >_< (they don't have the BM 42 to order with it).

I figure I can get the three 4 inch stones for like $30 with shipping from some place like knifecenter.

I do not know why people pay so much for stones.

I have a nice assortment most of which I have bought at flea markets (used) and grage sales (used) , the only stones I have ever bought new were a few hard Ark's and the ceramic rod.

You do not need fancy , expensive stones to sharpen and maintain your knives.

Anyways , bent tip ? I won a older Spydie on eBay not too long ago with a tip that obviously been used as a phillips screwdriver , about ten minutes on 3 different stones and my tip was nearly good as new , that is if you did not know every inch of an older Spyderco , you would never notice the difference.
You could do the same.

Did the 3 different stones happen to be Coarse, Fine, and Extra Fine? :)

New question: best $30 - $40 buy from knifeworks or New Graham that gets me what I need to take care of 154 CM, as well as take care of the tip on the Leek (I forget the blade steel, but it's ... less than 154 CM).

By the way, I will finally order whatever you guys recommend me :) the other stone was just too expensive with separate shipping and all that.

Hmm... thom, where for art thou thom (and hardheart, and Buck628 (number may be wrong))?

Well, I wouldn't use my diamond stones on any heavily damaged blade or tip. Those stones are expensive and why wear them out early when you can just take a cheap carborundum stone or a file and smooth everything out first. I've used the file on my gerber multipliers many times to straighten up a bent tip. Sandpaper can be useful as well.

Good point... it's just a tiny bit bent tip, but it almost hooks around in a U shape :(

Btw, what stones would you recommend for all my sharpening needs? I'd like to get a coarse, fine and extra fine set-up for $45 max from knifeworks/newgraham, but I want to stay away from tiny stones if possible (unless you feel they can do the job), so that I can sharpen large 6 inch [blade] kitchen knives (that will most likely need coarse stones in some places where the steel has rolled).

DMT Coarse, Spyderco Fine and Medium benchstones have been my total knife maintaince set up.

BTW: that tip is gonna bend no matter what steel it is and a harder steel would be more likely to just snap right off

Well, I officially destroyed the tip with pliers, so now is the time to learn to sharpen on it so I can just send it in and get it good as new.

Someone recommend me the stones I need (just read over past posts, or I'll compile it all)!
