What do you guys know about Beretta knives?
Who makes them?
What kind of steel?
Are they well made?

I found quite a good price on them at a local gun store. Thought I might try one.

Most of Beretta's current models appear to be AUS-6 or AUS-8, with both removable metal clips and reversible thumb studs. I don't know what those are like or who actually contracs to produce them, but a couple of years ago I had a Beretta K92 lockback (complete with imitation 9mm cartridge shield in the kraton handle) that was very nice. It was very sharp out of the box -- so sharp that a friend of mine sliced his thumb open so badly opening the knife (don't ask how he managed that) that we had to take him for medical assistance.

And tomorrow when you wake up it will be worse.

i just looked at 2 different models out of curiosity at a local knife store, don't know the models and don't care to know. one was priced at 50 and other at 70, both were gritty when opening and very hard to open also. blade play side to side and lock-up wasn't all that great either! went with a perfect bm for $80 and as always it was well worth the money!

I bought one of the International Guide series folder. It has a 440c blade, brushed steel bolsters, ss liners and Cocobolo wood scales. This knife can be seen at James Mattis's Chai Cuttlery Site http://www.chaicutlery.com/beretta/be-folder-cocobolo.jpg His positive description really does not do justice to this knife. The workmanship, Japanese, is exquisite. Onen and its like having a fixed blade. The 3" blade and its shape make for excellent cutting. The only down side is that the stud is low down on the blade requiring a longer throw, but you get used to this very quickly. Also, it does not have a clip and is somewhat heavy for pocked carry so it best in held by belt pouch. It would be a nearly perfect utility knife except its so nice you hesitate to use it. I got mine on an Ebay auction.

Anyone had their hands on any of the Berettas on page 3 of the Jan Tac Knives ?
Looks like a new departure for them....
An all-carbon fibre folder with a bonded VG10 blade, a few Busfield collabs and the Electra.....lovely wharncliffe blade in VG10 and what look like circuit board inserts in the handles.

I have one of the "International Guide" 4" fixed blade models.
It's a very nice knife for the money. It's small enough for everyday carry, if you so choose, and it is a keen cutter.
The Micarta handle is comfortable and the black pouch type leather sheath is unobtrusive on the belt.
I would prefer the Micarta to have a little rougher texture, but it still works as is. Overall, it's a good buy and a great work knife. It's actually almost too pretty to use.

So, what IS the speed of dark?

Hi Brian,

That circuit boad gents's knife looks pretty slick. I will probably have to have it before the end of the month.

I agree with the comments about the slow gritty opening. Perhaps I have been spoiled by liner locks, but I just dont care for lockbacks anymore. The liner's are much smoother. I have 3 large aluminium airlights with partially serrated blades and quaity does not vary very much between them. They all lock up tight and are nice solid knives for the money. I would not pay more than $40-$50 for one though.

I must like them, I am going to get a zytel sheepsfoot tomorrow!

BTW, here is a pic I harvested from James's of the new circuit board Beretta:

Now, if my distributors hadn't stopped carrying those International Guide knives . . . .

It may have a common cause with the lack of sales on my site - bought a handfull two years ago, eventually sold the 2 or 3 folders, still have some of the fixed blades.

Made by Moki - first rate - 440C, micarta or cocobolo, impeccable fit and finish, could use better leatherwork. And underappreciated in a market that was demanding "tactical."

I'll have to bug Beretta when I stop at their exhibit at the SHOT Show and find out if they're still obtainable, and from whom.
