Those are Cornelian Cherries, actually related to dogwoods. The prominent lateral veins are a giveaway for the family. They are edible, though the ones in your pictures may not be ripe yet.

Now if you'll excuse me, I have about 30lbs of ripe Beach Plums to process into something storable. :D
 
The leaves are not narrow enough for sand hill plums I don't think and their fruit is typically rounder. At least this is what ours look like:

Persimmons are more round and orange and have a tuft at the top where it was attached to the tree:
