I watch a Danish Bushcrafter on You Tube who posts as "Bertram". In addition to his videos on Bushcraft trips he is also a blacksmith, makes tools, his knives (like a puukko) and most recently a axe with a Russian type head. His handles look to be about 2 feet long, and are rectangular (?) with the edges rounded. He uses the axe to pound stakes, chop wood, trim logs down to start carving spoons or bowls. If he is Hot Tenting he uses a saw to cut up fire wood to fit into his stove. If just using a tarp, lately he has been cutting about 6 foot lengths of standing dead trees, and taking 3 or 4 logs, pointing to each other and starting a fire. As the logs burn down, he just moves them closer to the center, where the fire is. His axe does not look like it would be great for harvesting a lot of firewood, say for winter, but works well for what he does with it. He recently made a video of himself forging the Russian style axe head out of C45 steel, all done with a hammer and drift to form the eye. Title of the video is:
