Which steel is the least corrosive (least carbon?) . I am looking at some of the older steels like Gin1 ect

I always had good luck with spyderco aus-8 when I am in salt water. As long as you clean it at the end of the day.

Worst case scenario , I had some small surface rust that cleans right off.

The 2 blade steels you guys just mentioned are both known for their corrosion resistance. I carried a Renegade model for over a year which had GIN-1 blade steel and I never had any corrosion issues with it. Also I have an older Catcherman model that I use quite a bit that is made of AUS-8 and I've never had any corrosion problems with it either.

Be warned about ZDP-189 :( I have had some corrosion issues with it. Now ZDP-189 is one of my top 3 favorite blade steels in the knife world. But if you cut any food items or dress any fish or wild game you have better wash that blade with soap and fresh water immediately. Also I had some minor pitting on one of my VG-10 blades.

It is sort of ironic that some of Spyderco's older blade steels are the best in corrosion resistance.

Ive had minor surface rust on my s30v native before, but nothing that wouldnt wipe right off with some mineral oil

use vg-10 in salt pools alot and just blow the blade trough out. clean small rust off once a month with emery cloth. so for me that is pretty dang rust resistant.

VG-10 is supposed to be like 154CM with much, much better corrosion resistance.

Still not better then S30V / S90V.

Funny most of my knives are S30V and they rust in my pockets. The seat and dampness do this to all of my s30v including a SNG and Spyderco. The only one with s30v that has not rusted thus far are knives from CRK.

I work out at the gym everyday and the collection of seat in my camos plus the humid summers in the south always have me seating some. I also cut a lot of fruit and citrus (limes :D) with my knives and don't always get to wash them right after use.

Is the S90v any better than the s30v? Is it really that much harder to sharpen?

is the aUS OR Gin 1 better at corrosion resistance than the s30v?

I wish more styles by Spyderco used the H1. My grail knife would be something like a Titanium Millie with H1 or Hinderer XM-18 in H1.

Is there a place that i can buy the steel by itself and does anyone know if any manufacturers would use the H1 to make a blade if it was supplied to them?

Sorry about all the quetstion but i am really still searching for that operfect knife for me. One that i can toss into the dishwasher after use and can get it out the following day with no worries. The H1 series by spyderco are nice but I really want something a little higher end with the same steel.
