Hay guys, ran into a little money and I'm looking to pick up a better edc. My price range is up to 150, though I may be able to go up to 200 if necessary. (It'd be great to get what I want for much less.)
I prefer large, heavier knives.
Preferred blade length: 3.5+
I dont have any brands I will not consider, though I do have a thing for kershaw knives.
I also like wharncliff blades pretty well but by no means does it have to be a wharncliff
I am looking for one specific knife otherwise, a traditional~ish wharncliff (slippie or lockback) that is ether single bladed or that the main blade is a wharncliff. If it is single bladed I would like the blade to handle ratio to not be so off (as with the case sway back jack)

Well if you can score a Flarety made folder off the forums here it will be money more than well spent. Superbly made tac/edc folders. Just outstanding fit and finish. keepem sharp

Just noticed you were lookin for heavy knives. Should probably disregard my suggestions in that case.

Benchmade 440 or 921.
I'm not aware of any heavy wharncliffs actually, so may have to forget about that shape.

What about a ZT 0200?

The recommendation of the ZT 0200 is a good one. You might also check out the Spyderco Vallotton or, if you're willing to go a bit above $200, the Kershaw Tilt.

Did someone say tilt?

pics are from the "tilt again" thread, second two are Thomas W's and the first is djdawgdj's

The 0200 is one heck of a good pick for what you seem to be looking for though.

The ZT0200 would fit the bill for large, heavier, and over 3.5" blade. At $138.00 it is areal value

At $200.00, I would say to check out the Spyderco Vallotton Sub-Hilt. A 3.75" blade of S30V, and a weight of 6.2 ounces (though mine weighed closer to 6.5 ounces on my scales), makes for a very solid feeling knife. Thick stainless liners, along with a thick (.156") blade make this a very nice and heavy duty knife.

Hi Nick -

The suggestion of a Tilt is honoring your wharncliffe request, but unfortunately it is well over your $150 mark.

The Kershaw Needs Work is a nice little wharncliffe inspired design, and it also has the Speedsafe feature. This model can be had for under $50 easily.

The Talon II is a great little knife that also is well under your budget, and is a modern take on the wharncliffe design.

I had the pleasure of reviewing a Talon II, and it was a great little knife.

Good luck and congrats on your recently new-found wealth.

best regards -

It is a 3 1/4 inch blade but the Kershaw Random Task II might be what you are looking for. You could also go a little over $200 and get Alan Davis to fix you the knife you want with the handles, steel, blade shape ect. He does great work at a VERY FAIR PRICE! The ZT 200 is also a good one! Good Luck! Kevin :D

Nothing happened to the tip. I just thought the blade shape would look neat in a semi-wharnie style. Used a dremel tool with a bucket of water. Took a while to do because I did not want to heat it up and ruin the temper. After I finished, the tip sharpened up very well, and is still sharp.

The best of both........ZT0200 and a semi-wharncliffe.......in one!

That it pretty cool but I wouldn't do it, just because I have a tendency to move too quickly and I'd ruin the temper.

Right now the zt 200 is winning but I think I may have been misunderstood, I don't need my knife to be super heavy lol I really didn't like the endura because I kept thinking it had fallen out of my pocket. I just dont want anymore issues like that

Ahh, thanks.
