The search is not working so forgive me if this has been done to death. If it has and you can link me to the threads, I would love it.

Anyway, my nephew has decided he wants a decent knife instead of his S&W SWAT folder and he seems to want a fixed blade. He went to Wal-Mart with his dad and was looking at a Winchester fixed blade. I don't know anything about it but I bet that you guys can help me find him a higher quality knife than a Wal-Mart one.

He does alot of camping and hiking with the Boy Scouts and his dad so I think a smaller knife would be better. I am not up to speed on fixed baldes at all, I am a folder kind of guy so help me out. I just might make it a gift and surprise him.

Thanks.

ANZA has handmade knifes in that price range. Good quality, excellent customer service, and quite distinctive. Model T1 is $18, but can be customized with a different handle material for a little extra.

Lots of good knives in that price range. I'd love to show you more, but I gotta go!

How about a Becker neck knife? It's in the $30 range on ebay, you may find one for less if you search around. I wish I'd had one of these when I was in the scouts.

keep the suggestions comming. So far the Anza T1 looks like it may be the best bang for the buck. Handmade, comes with sheath and is only $18! Any reviews or comments about this knife that I can read? Is there anywhere that sells them for less than Anza sells them or is that it?

There are stores that sell Anza knives, but I haven't seen the T1 anywhere else. If you want it customized, definitely order from Anza. Their customer service is tops and shipping is lightning fast. I haven't handled a T1 myself, but I did have Anza create a custom knife for me. They did a very nice job and I could't be happier with the results.

If you search the forum for "Anza", there have been some reviews of their knives. I believe there's a recent pass-around for one of their Boddington knives. You may not find specific info on the model you have in mind, but you'll get a good idea of the quality of their products.

On a side note, regarding your nephew's Scouting. Boy Scouts are strongly discouraged from carrying sheath knives and they may not be allowed by his Scoutmaster. It probably won't be allowed at district or council activities. Not saying he shouldn't have a small fixed-blade knife, but he probably needs a pocketknife too.

Best Wishes,
Bob
