I need a new knife, LOL. My price range is $40 to $60 US. Before you recommend anything, I already have all versions of the Byrd G-10 Cara Cara, and all versions of the Kabar / Dozier folders (the $20 ones).
This is what I'm looking for in a knife....
Folder, although the locking mechanism (liner, lockback, arc, etc.) doesn't really matter to me.
Blade between 3.5" and 4.5"
Decent blade material (at least AUS-8)
One-handed opening. Holes, disks, or studs, it doesn't matter.
Pocket clip, preferably relocatable for left- or right-handed carry. While I prefer tip-up carry, I wouldn't be opposed to tip-down.
NOT a metal handle (aluminum, titanium, etc.)
NOT a Tanto point (not legal here)

So far, it looks like my best bet would be a Spyderco Endura 4, Endura 4 with a Wave, or a Benchmade Ambush. Any thoughts?

I was a bit in your shoes once. I was looking for the perfect folder knife. Luckily for me, it came at a good price. I found a great deal on Spyderco Centofante. I remember before i bought it, i thought it looked strange but now that i actually have one, it looks wicked sweet. Nice wharny blade, good lock-up, good weight and feel, i like the handles. I guess i might have just been lucky but it might be worth it to take a look. Good luck

Take a look at SOG's Flash II and Trident.
I have both models, two of each, and they are excellent knives. You get alot of knife for the price, and they are both in your price range.

I was pleasantly surprised at the Benchmade Ambush... mine is a very solid knife... rather large. I'd check out the Camillus Heat, awesome knife.

Try a CRKT M16 or M21. Solid knives for the money you want to spend. I sent my Son an M16 Tanto 6 months ago and he says it is one toughSOB and he is in IRAQ. I have the same knife but with Carbon Fiber scales and it is a BaddAzz!!!

Benchmade mini-griptilian. Lots of colors and variations to choose from. Axis lock, made in the US, great knife.

The Endura is exactly what I would have recommended. Also, you may want to check out the Spyderco Pacific Salt. It's an Endura-sized knife that is completely impervious to corrosion. The Salt series knives make excellent EDC's.

Listen to Liveitloud!

The Spyderco Native will give you the best deal for the money, hands down.
S30V steel, made in the USA, and available at most Walmarts for around 40 bucks!
You'd be hard pressed to find an equivilant knife for less than $150! Believe me, I looked hard.
Hope you can get a hold of one.
Good luck!

I was in that same position not long ago. Spyderco really has a good selection in that price range... I was torn between quite a number of various makes and models, but ended up with a S30V wally world Native. Seems to be a great knife, and now that I've gotten rid of the factory bevel I'm hoping the edge will hold up better.

The Kershaw Junkyard Dog 2 is a 3.5 inch Sandvik Steel knife with grey G-10 handle, very thick liner lock, sweet smooth one-handed flipper. The only thing is that it is only tip down, right handed carry. But for a street price of $60 or less, it's hard to beat.

If you want more knife, try the Kershaw Spec Bump. S30V steel, Speedsafe open, stud lock, G-10 handle, $110. But again, tip down, RH carry.

Bladetech Pro Hunter Lite - great knife for around $50. 440C blade, dual steel liners, lockback, thumbhole, clip. Comes in hi-vis orange or black FRN over the steel liners.

Benchmade mini-griptilian. Lots of colors and variations to choose from. Axis lock, made in the US, great knife.

agreed, i have the mini in D2 half serrarted, by far the best EDC folder i've carried, Its a little more than you want to spend (70-75$) but i think its worth it. My friend got a Kabar mule yesterday, although its on the bulky side it seems very solid and handles nicely. I think he payed 40$ for it;)

I would recommend the Spyderco Pacific Salt.

In my opinion, it is simply one of the best cutting knives on the market.
Light-weight, rust proof, virtually maintenance free, easy to sharpen, and cuts like a laser...
what more could you as for?

Good luck,
Allen
