Well, it looks like my old Sony 36" might be dead after 10 years of great picture. I've always gone Sony for TVs and always had good luck with them, but now I hear they may be going down, and that Samsung is the new king.

I usually shop the hell out of this kind of purchase, but don't really have the time right now, so if you've recently shopped TVs, or just know about them in general, please share your knowledge.

TIA, Mike

We just bought a Vizio 60" LED smart tv at Sam's Club for $1120 including tax
and 2 year extended warranty. We have 3 Vizios in the house and I've had zero problems
with them.

I have a 52" Panasonic Plasma that I got from a full service dealer a couple of years ago for $1,300 so you should be able to find them around a grand. It has been a very good tv. I researched a bit too, and it seems that at least then Panasonic had pretty uniformly good reviews.

We also have a 42" Vivio I got from WalMart in our bedroom for like $500 that is fine. I dont' think the picture is quite as good but I can't really say that for sure.

Finding a 50" or smaller tv for less than 1,500 should be pretty easy now.

That price range you should be able to get whatever you want. That is the size I am looking at right now, but trying to stay under $800. That is a little trickier, but I can still find 120hz, 1080p LED sets for under $800. No internet apps or 3D, but I don't really care about that extra stuff too much. I just have a 32" 60hz Toshiba that is nice, but small in my new house. I would recommend Samsung or Sharp higher end for $1500.

I have a 47.5 inch I believe is the size maybe 48 inch vizio 1080p LCD that we payed 1,000 for, they are way cheaper now that the "smart tvs" have came out, the ones with youtube and the internet on them. I think the t.v we bought for 1,000 bucks is now like 700 at wally world , I love this tv though , I had a sony bravio that was the same size and resolution , and lighting ran in on it and the vizio, has a much better picture quality than the sony, vizio is your way to go you could get a 55 inch vizio for 1,000 bucks now I believe. At least in my state, but prices may vary depending on where you are.
