A few weeks ago, I noticed one of the scales on my 58mm sak (non-alox) was coming loose so I gently completed the removal, cleaned up the mating surfaces with some isorpopyl alcohol and reattached with cyanoacrylate. Well, its come loose yet again- granted life on a keychain isn't that easy but there must be an adhesive out there that will work better.

Just use more super glue? JB Weld? What do you guys think?

As not to create any bulging in places where the glue was put I'd just use a 3m spray adhesive, since it's not super sticky, but it will hold better. Or even better just buy a new set of scales, because apparently you aren't suppose to reuse scales that you've taken off before cause of warping.

Sand the scales flat, clean off all old glue from both surfaces.
I have never replaced the scales on a SAK, but my choice of glues for this would be contact cement-UNLESS there is a component in the contact cement that will react with or soften the plastic scales. You could try applying a small spot in the inside center of a scale and then check to see if it reacts with the plastic.

Clean it all up . and use marine- grade epoxy. 60 min. set time , but stronger.( available at most Home building centres.) Align the plates and clamp together gently ( I used masking tape. ) Apply very little near the edges , to avoid squeeze-out. Test a small area ,like stated above, first.

Your problem is why I only buy the Alox ( aluminum ) side plate SAK's.

It might be a little thick for an SAK, but I noticed that Chris Reeve uses some 3M double-sided adhesive for their wood inlays. It's not the usual stuff from Wal-Mart, but the kind you can get at an auto parts store that is used to adhere painted molding to car body panels. I've used some and it is pretty amazing.

Victorinox has a lifetime warranty. Send it in and they will replace the scales for free. New scales require no glue; they are a friction fit on the protrusions of the metal body inside.
