I'm planning to add a thumb stud or maybe a buk bar to my 110 and I'm wondering what the consensus is on the various styles out there.

On my first 110, which I lost many moons ago, I bought one of those little spring steel clip-ons for a few dollars but it seems they're no longer being sold anywere. Does anyone here remember those? Anyone know where I can get one? I'm guessing not, so....

What's the scoop on the products that are available. What brands are reputable and which ones should I avoid? That old clip-on used to pop off once in a while. Do the studs or bars that are secured with set screws ever pop off? What about tapping a hole in the blade for a screw-in stud?

There's a product called a One Armed Bandit that attaches onto the spine of a folder, look at Smokey Mountain Knife Works for that one. And if your looking for a quick fix, add on pocket clip, look at the adhesive backed "Eclipse" by Nite Ize, look on Amazon for that one. Or contact one of our fellow Blade Forums members who do custom work on knives. STR comes to mind. Good luck.

ARKS KNIVES,on here sent me a couple of thse one armed bandits for my 110 ,wow, they work very well,i actually use one on my alaskan guide 110 just for a perfect place tio rest my thumb while doing skinning chores, they work great as the have a cross hatch pattern on them that provides lots of grip.

Yeah those are nice if you don"t mind the extra bulk. They can get in the way of a slice though. I prefer the really small ones that require you to drill the blade. they are only about 2 bucks from Jantz. but the drill bit will run you about 15.

I like this style the most

They sell set screw thumbstuds at the Buck store. The appropriate Allen key is included. The stud is slotted at the 1/3-2/3 position on the knurled barrel. Put the long end on the thumb side of the blade. This thing works for right or left handed users.

There are some that aren't knurled onnthe market as well,i don't like those at all, just looking 5to get cut with those ones.Get the knurled cross hatched ones or none at all.

Thanks for the tips. I checked smokey mountain but it looks like they no longer carry the bandits. I think I would lean toward drilling and installing a lower profile stud anyway. Definitely knurled. There's a gun show swinging through town in a few weeks - if I don't find one there then I'll probably go ahead and order one from jantz.
