I was loking at a Kobra or maybe a 25 inch Sirupati, but the backorder wait! Oy vey! So its something of a toss-up between the millineum special, Gelbu specail, and malla khuk. Anyone care to extoll the virtues and superiorities of these blades to me? I know, youre going to ask, but whats the use it will be put to? War and peace, diging holes sometimes, sometimes vs varmints of all shapes and sizes. Maybe the 25 inch sirupatis isnt out the window yet.... Rusty, have you got a pic of that 30 incher of yours? Thanks to all responses.

Well, as a new owner of the 25" kobra I have to say it's THE MOST AMAZING knife in my collection so far. Light, sharp, and extremely durable. It did almost as well as my A&A Claymore ( a 60" 5 lb giant of a sword) in the cutting test (1/4" plywood). I like the scabbard and the chakma/karda that came with it as well..very nicely done. I even took the chakma to my Rambo III knife by Gil Hibbon and it sharpened the edge faster than any other sharpening device I have around my house. It is now officially my new 'bedside sentry'

I cant comment on the 30" except that it's longer than it looks... the 25" kobra is almost too long for me as a knife, and Im 6'1". The Sirupati I have as well, it's more of a tool knife IMHO due to weighting, but nevertheless is a very durable knife. Just dont do what my stupid cousin did and take it vs a concrete wall.

Anyway, that's my opinions, hope they helped..

Patience is a virtue...

Accept no substitutes; get your name down on the waiting list for a 25" Kobra (the only known cure for HIKV). As the Lyman people (IIRC) used to say; why not start out with what you're bound to end up with?

I would grab a MS, if one is available. My favorite blade, my only complaint being that it is too pretty to use! It feels much heftier than a similar length Kobra, but hits like the proverbial ton of bricks. I know what you mean about waiting, the wait for the Katanas is killing me!

Definitely get a Gelbu Special first. it is a great all-around blade, and a bit better suited to high-impact chpooing than the 25 inch kobra. The GS will also tide you over till the kobra arrives, which you will also definitely need

A light blade is fine, except for the "dig holes" requirement.

You would want a fairly strong tip and wide blade for that. The 20" Ang Khola comes to mind. As for the rest, work out a lot with it. You only need speed for 2 legged encounters.

A heavy Sirupati would work also.
