I'm sure this has been on the forum before, but I was a little bored and thought I would throw this out there. What is the best all around camping, hunting, hiking fixed blade? I'm sure there are all types of opinions but figure in price, practicality, and quality. Minimum 4.5 inch blade. Look foward to hearing your input.

Well, I wandered all over the place and finally got an old Schrade 165 off of eBay. Now I don't look for knives any more. (Not fixed blades, anyhow)
:)

I could never diffinitively address this, because I love so many designs. But sticking to the rules listed above, and just pulling one out of the hat, I would feel good knowing I had one of my Gerber BMF's with me. The Gerber Bowie or the Cold Steel Trailmaster would make me feel all warm and fuzzy too.

most bang for buck slant:
I'd suggest the Doug Ritter RSK Mk3. at $165
G10, S30V Rc 58-60, full tang, great design & ergos, terrific sheath system.
Beyond this price point we are into Customs.

I'll take my 45 year old Randall 6" Sportsman's Bowie. After all, it only cost me $25 when I bought it in 1961. My parents were aghast at the thought of paying that much for a knife! :) :)

I don't think there is a single best knife because not everyone does the same things with their knives. One that doesn't seem to get a lot of mention, but which I think is an excellent knife, is the Benchmade 156 CSK. I've used it for everything from peeling potatoes to light chopping and splitting and I've been very happy with it. 6.06" D2 blade, full tang, 10.90" overall length, comfortable handle, and available for under $80.

For sale on the Busse Combat web site right now is what is destined to be one of the best all-around Busse outdoor knives of all time. 5" blade, choice of standard or magnum handles. For a user, get the standard model at 0.187" thick, not the 0.25" LE, since it is not really long enough to be a chopper anyway. If we get lucky he may eventually even offer this in an anorexic model at 0.150".

Since handling the prototype at Blade for several years, I have been awaiting this one for quite a while.
