Anyone got a reccommendation on a stone under $20. This is for a friend who needs to touch up his Henckles Pro Ses. Thanks

I've got a couple of the sharpeners by EZLap like this one in the link and for the money I think they are the best out there personally and they work on everything out there quite well including the new super steels. I have zero complaints about these sharpeners for the guy that likes doing the free hand thing like me. You may be able to do a search and find these EZLap sharpeners for under $20 but I deal with Fred a lot and like him so I picked his link to use to show it to you.

The Razor edge sharpeners are great also and their fine dry hone is another really good one for the money. It is within your price range and I highly recommend it also.

From Smokey Mountain Knife Works you could get both a Norton 175th Anniversary 8" combo coarse/fine India stone item NTIB8 for $11.99 and a Big John Super Stick ceramic rod item SI1000(maintaining the edge) for $6.49 for a total of $18.48 plus shipping.

You can probably get Norton double-sided stones on Ebay for that.
Crystylon (or something like that) I think it's called. It's their brand of Silicon Carbide (or something like that). It all escapes my mind right now (I don't even know why I'm posting) but I have one and they're all over ebay. Old ones in the paperboard box. Blue and yellow box I think. Get a big one. They cut really fast.

Just use a soft Arkansas stone or a fine India stone.

But with the diamonds he can not just touch up the Henckels, but easily sharpen more moodern harder steels that are tough on natural stones like S30V, S90V, etc.

I have never seen a diamond stone that was fine enough to put a really sharp edge on a knife, nor have I seen any steel that is particularly hard on a natural stone.

The Norton combination fine/coarse India bench stone is a great value. I’ve had one for about seven years now. For most of my knife sharpening needs, it’s the only thing I use.

Are you telling me that a DMT DiaSharp UltraFine (1200 grit) will not put a sharp edge on a knife? I disagree.

I've gotten sharp on DMT coarse. Sharpness and fine edge are two different things =]
I'll grab a Norton India for now. Thanks!
