When I consider a knife to be crap it's usually for a reason for example
If the quality control whent down hill
Or the knife is not practical
I only judge knifes I have used

Price is not the issue it's about the product

In my impinge the best are
Spyderco paramilitary 2 manix 2
Kershaw leek blur
Buck 110 112
Case copperlock
Crkt ikoma fossil
Cold steel voyager gen 2

The worst
Ozark trail knifes
Frost cutlery knifes
M tech knifes
Tac force knifes
Gerber fast draw
Boker nano

some would call you a fan boy.

brands exist to serve different customer groups, if you don't like a company why give them negative attention. calling them "the worst brands"

what makes them the "worst" have you had your feelings hurt by these brands? or are you just trying to get some brownie points for regurgitating other's opinions on these brands?

ozark trail gets a knife to a consumer for a minimal price, does this make them the "worst brand"? you simply made a list without any backing to it... great job fanboy.

Worst: Ganzo, M Tech,
Best: whatever you choose above or Spyderco
for me it would be Hinderer

It's just a conversation dude...if a veteran member like marcinek didn't call the guy out, maybe you should let it ride...

The best ones are the ones making knives I want, the worst are those that aren't making anything I want.

I cannot imagine you doing such a thing. As for the question (I'm surprised you didn't hit this Marci), best and worst for the money or in the absolute sense? Not trying to be picky, just asking.

Thank you.

But just so smcknives doesn't accuse me of being a fanboy, I'll expand on my earlier post.

Most "larger makers" make a quality product. I like some less than others because of their designs, but that is preference, not "good" vs "bad."

So my choices are based on my experiences with the company.....not that the OP even asked for the reasoning behind our lists.

Biker does still have some quality knives made in Germany, just like Gerber still makes a great knife in America. The problem is that they've lost customers with their bear grills line and other Walmart specials.

BTW Victorinox will always be one of the Best .

I prefer to split it into 3 tiers, of Best, decent, and worst, these being ones I've used/owned.

For my example:

Best = CRK, Spyderco, Lionsteel, Steel Will, Ontario, Expensive Kizer's
Decent = Benchmade, Cold Steel, budget Kizer's, SOG
Worst = KAI (Kershaw & Zero Tolerance), CRKT, Boker, any mallninja eBay or walmart knives.

Damn right. Marcinek has been on the front lines of every battle with the legions of internet trolls that's been fought here since the turn of the millennium. He's out-maneuvered, out-played, and out-smarted wave after wave of determined e-foes and countless great champions from the dark depths of the troll underworld. The man has a rack of troll-hunting ribbons stacked over his shoulder that would make a Soviet Russian general blush. If Marcinek's trolldar isn't pinging, then one can assume all's well on the forum thread...so far.

I've had my best experiences with Spyderco, Boker (high end ones), CRK and Benchmade (minus a couple mini Grip issues) and the only company I've never really had good experiences with is CRKT. A brand I flat out don't like is Ganzo (but that is another story), a few companies flip flopped from the OP but we all have different experiences. Comparing Spyderco to the likes of Mtech and such is a bit obvious I would say though.

Just curious but why are people not giving more credit to the KAI knives. We all know the Kershaws are hit or miss, but since the whole ZT thing, they have been spot on. I find it really hard to say Spyderco, Benchmade or Kai are in a different tier from each other on anything more then personal preference. They're basically targeting the same price point, with a variety of options. Service from all 3 is great, warranties are top notch.

Only 3 brands I really pay attention to, Benchmade, Spyderco, and Kershaw/ZT. Although, Kershaw lately is just pumping out Chinese junk and ZT might as well rename themselves Flippers R Us... Guess it's time to look for some new go to brands

Spyderco has been hitting it out of the park for me. And no, Spyderco is not targeting the same price point as KAI or Benchmade. They have by far the most diverse lineup in not just sheer number of offerings but also in price and materials used. They make knives in 4 different countries out of all sorts of materials from low cost Birds to their High end Taichung line. I just got their 2017 catalogue in the mail and it is a freaking novel. People don't have to like the looks or ergonomics but you have to admit that they have by far the most diverse lineup.

Big issue with a lot of people (myself included) are how their frame locks function. Instead of locking up solid like CRK, Kizer, Spyderco, etc., their frame locks like to slide over to the non-lock side when any force is applied to the lock bar, leading to big questions on reliability and lock wear. Obviously sliding to the non-lock side is better than sliding off the tang and closing the blade, but when minimal force is required to do so....yeah, just not good. Not to turn this into a debate. Had to give up on my 0450's because of that, and I've been wanting a 0804CF, but I'm not spending that kind of money on said lock issues.

I'm counting 39/40 new KAI knives for 2017 between both Kershaw and ZT and that's not even getting into their Shun stuff. I'm not really a fan boy of either one of them, but man the Spyderco kool-aid is real with some folks it seems. When you see a sypdie, you know it's a spydie. They are all slightly different, but that are all also extremely similar, mainly because of that Sypdie hole. This doesn't mean they don't have a great selection of knives, or I don't like the company, I just think the rosies are too strong for some people. They make a good knife, a great knife even, so do a lot of other companies. I do find it kind of silly though when people start putting Spydies on the same level as CRKs.
