Best angle for saw blade knives

A customer brought me some knives made from saw blades, and he wanted them done at 25dps. I feel they could have gotten much sharper than that, so what angle do you use for those things?

Without knowing the heat treatment and particular alloy, that's hard to guess at. But I find that most steels, properly heat treated, can easily handle 15dps.

Thanks guys, I pushed for 20 maybe next time I can talk him into it, but in the end I'll give him what he wants.

We'll put it this way--I keep my machetes at 15dps. They're not particularly hard steel, and they see heavy and repeated impact without suffering.

I grind my scythe blades at 7-9° per side and use them to take out woody late-season goldenrod and burdock without issue. Proper technique is necessary to avoid damage, of course, but the more familiar you are with how a particular steel and heat treatment can be expected to perform in a given context of use, the less "insurance factor" you need built into your geometry. :)

He's going to make one for me sometime soon, I'll probably give 15 with an 18 or 19 micro bevel a shot.
