I know a lot of people reprofile the edge on their knives to suit them. What angle do you prefer on your every day carry and why?

I reprofile my dailyuse folders to less than 20 degree/side. Thus I'm able to touch them up with sharpmaker.

20 per side for me too. Mainly due to Sharpmaker. It seems to perform well also.

Depending on the Steel I like 15 degrees per side for a razor sharp edge on small blades.

If 15 degrees proves too fragile for any reason I bump up to 20 degrees per side.

Hmmm. Seems to be a kind of concensus going on here. I use the 19 degree slot on my Gatco for the exact same reasons as Tommi. I find it interesting what Gatco recommends:

"Angle 25 deg: Wider bevel: more durable edge. Perfect for pocket, folding, hunting, fixed-blade and some serrated blades."

25 is a bit steep for me.

25 degrees for kitchen, 20 degrees for 'most' fixed blades, 15 degrees or less (depending on the steel) for pocket/everyday carry. My own general guidelines.

My EDC folders I thin down quite a bit. I don't know the angle, but THIN.

I generally profile to 15 degrees (or at least under 19 degrees). I typically finish my sharpening with my ceramic rods which are set at 19 degrees.

Hey!

I like 20% for most pocket blades
25% for rough and tough camp blades
15% for the scary blades...
