Best angle?

I just bought a BM 942SBT. It has a slight burr on it's blade (Edge) so naturally I am going to remove it and being a beginner on sharpening I thought I would ask what would be a good all around angle to sharpen it to.
I have the Lansky sharpening system.

Thanks Mark

the standard all-around angle is 20 degrees both sides.

However, allow me to recommend something different:

Foldters are small knives, most of the time reserved for EDC chores. Tkae your knife to a thinner edge, say 15 degrees both sides. You'll ge imrpoved slicing performance. Yeah, the edge might not last as long. And you can't do heavier work with it. But if you use yout knife to open mail, cut string, cut cardboard, etc., go thinner on the edge and enjoy how easily it slices.

I'm all for the thinner edge, too.
Like to back bevel at 30 included, and then finish just the edge at 40 included, a la Sharpmaker. No reason you can't do it with a Lansky, though...
Here's something to try. Grind it at 20 per side. Cut some stuff. Grind it a 15 per side. Cut some more of the same stuff.
The difference may surprise you.
A thinner edge will roll or chip easier, but will drastically outcut a thicker edge.

If it is a new knife, why don't you steel the edge using a very fine steel. If it's new, it shouldn't need sharpening at all!

Freedom1 -- I think I'd pay a lot of attention to what Thomas suggested.

At the very least, since you acknowledge yourself to be inexperienced at sharpening or using your Lansky system, use a cheaper knife to experiment/practice on. Don't go right at it with your brand new, expensive folder. If nothing else, hit a couple garage sales, and buy a couple crummy kitchen knives, which almost all sales seem to have. Use those, or some old pocket knife you abandoned hope on some time ago. Then, when you've developed the requisite skills, have a go at your nice stuff.

Bugs and Thomas: do you guys have success removing a burr with a steel? I can get a burr off with a strop, allthough it's not a method I favor. I can get a burr off with a stone, either by resharpening, or just doing a light double-grind. I don't think I've ever gotten a steel to remove a burr, I figured it would just cause the burr to point straight down.
