I was wondering which currently available tomahawk/axe brand or style you think would make the best combat hawk. I not talking about all of the modern "tactical" designs. I mean one of the types of hawks from Ragnar's. The rounded viking style axe from H&B Forge or Cold Steel, the longer straighter style like the Iroquois from Fort Turner. Possibly some of the mouse hawks from some of these makers. Small but probably much lighter and faster. What about the French style throwing hawks based on the Francisca from Ragnar's? What about the Roger's Rangers style hawk from Bear Mountain? I personally don't like or see the need for the spike but what about you?

I think speed is key with a weapon like this. The head needs to weigh less than a pound, and the handle needs to be around 14 in (try secondary swing with a heavy head on a 19 in handle). Also, the cutting edge can have an efect on the functionality. Something like a norse hawk is going to have a blade I think would be much better for slashing and hacking. It has a long, thinned cutting surface that allows it to cut at a continuous angle, like a Khukri. The blade design also allows it to be thrown with ease, if needed. If it had a spike on the back, it might be useful, but it might also be a liability. I think from the designs you are referring to, a sawed off Norse axe would be ideal.
