Looking for suggestions here. I want a back lock, 3 inches or under, under $100, with a pocket clip and can still be opened/closed with one hand. Thoughts?

Delica or Native from spyderco. Whichever you prefer the looks of I guess. Both are good.

I'm a Delica guy myself.

As has been said, Native or Delica, depending on if the finger choil on the Native is of interest to you. I prefer the Delica.

I love Spyderco, but I'd also check out Cold Steel Tri-Ad lock models. Spyderco will probably have more models that are more ergonomic. But Cold Steel Tri-Ad locks will be stronger and in some cases Spyderco lockbacks have a little vertical play where tri-ad locks won't have that. Spyderco lockbacks will tend to be a little easier to disengage.

In the end either company will have tools that will be more than enough to handle any reasonable task.

Another vote for Spyderco. The Delica/Endura drop open easily, the lock is simple to manipulate with one hand, and there is ample "safe" space to drop the blade closed against your finger as a stop before letting it ride the rest of the way closed.

cold steel tri-ad would be my pick. nothing stronger than a tri-ad. best in the business. wish Demkos lock was available in more brands though.

cold steel has a few cheaper ones that are very underrated, the tuff lite and kiridashi. im surprised the kiridashi folder isnt more popular around here.

Spydercos and Cold Steels are nice. The Native 5 is wonderful for EDC. For Cold Steel, if you don’t mind something a little bigger, the Voyager is an excellent starting model. My personal favorite backlock is the Recon 1.

I'd say Cold Steel hands down. That little Kiridashi is a very good edc knife. I am liking mine a lot and cheap enough to give them away to friends as gifts. The tri ad lock is exceptional. stay safe and keepem sharp

If you want a strong lock, Cold Steel tri ad lock is the way to go. Spyderco back lock is great too. One thing that has not been mentioned though, is that Spyderco back lock tends to have slight movement if you push the blade tip hard vertically (in fully locked position). I don't think it is a functional or safety issue but it is there just FYI.

I looked at it, but was turned off by the super cheap steel with unspecified hardness. They're getting close to Gerber territory with offerings like that. I don't go below AUS8A, these days.

"Best" can mean a lot of things. The strongest back lock is certainly Cold Steel's Tri-Ad lock. However, it is stronger than you need, unless you're doing a lot of stabbing with the knife, and the penalty is that it's harder to disengage than a more reasonble back lock, like you'll find on Spydercos.

Is the Tri-Ad one-hand-closeable? Yes, but if you do it more than a few times, your thumb is gonna be raw.
