What is the best Bali for beginners? I already have a Jaguar in the mail, and to China Cheapie Kriss's. I've worked with a Bear before and found that to be pretty solid, so I guess Im an intermediate, so whats the next step? Other than Jag, and preferably not a benchmade (though I;d love one, it would break the bank) thanks all.

Keep your eyes out for anything in pawn shops, second hand stores, antique places, etc. If you could find a Taylor or Parker, you'd be a lucky boy (or girl, whichever its good to have another one interested). In the meantime, start saving for the BM. If you get on a list now, you'll still have some time to wait and save before its shipped.

Do you have to pay in advance? Where the best place to get it? What happens if I dont pre-order? Do you think I ask alot of questions?

P.S. Its lucky girl

I agree.. Getting a lot of China cheapies might be satisfying in the short run but get a few odd jobs or put soe extra hours in and save up for the BM.. onestopknifeshop.com sells them for just over 100.00 whcih is a good investment. In my opinion the best Bali for beginners is a Jaguar 239 copy (deth to Bear) with the skeleton handles. but doesn't mean they dont work for intermediate or pros.

just remember the bears are light (yeuck) handled and the handles snap, the jags you have to replace the pins or elese they will fail.

Good luck on yoru training.. I doubt you will stay a beginner for too long.. an welcome to the forums.

Another woman flipper! You, my friend, have brought a smile to my face. I myself am just a regular, run of the mill Joe, but I'm pleased as punch to have another Jane (to mix things up with the Susan we have).

One Stop has several hundred 42's on order, and they expect to start shipping in June. Either way, though, there is a long line at 1SKS ahead of you, so you have time to start saving. I'd agree that Jags are pretty good for the cash (1SKS sell em for $15 if you do their code three). They last, and they are cheap enough you won't mind tossing them across the room every now and again. But for quality and daily carry (if that is something that you'll be doing), I would (and did) opt for the 42. If you want to wait a bit longer, some places are taking pre-orders on the 42a (adonized, that is, colored, ti). I'm numero uno over at www.nwcutlery.com .

Don't worry about that 42. Order one and beat the living hell out of a Jag until the pins break, then perform Clay's pin-fix and beat on it some more.

I've been at this thing for around a month, and I still am not willing to trash a Benchmade. I'm getting better though.

I sure wouldn't recommend any serrations on a first Bali. I got a partly serrated Jag and ended up filing that part down. That's about all the advice I'm qualified to give ya at this time.

Welcome to the forums, Fox. Hope to see ya around.

I just got to flip a 42 today.. finally.. I duno I think it leaves a lot to be desiired.. review to come soon.
