So I am heading out next week on a skidoo trip for a couple of days... The group i go with tend to be more extreme riding and I am planing my pack.. Lighter the better in my opinion. It will contain a kleen kanteen. Fiskars axe, folding saw, emergency blanket etc. my question is what should I take as a knife because there is always a need for a blade... I am torn between my bk24 w/ micarta or the bk 16 that is stripped polished and wearing new micarta handles.... I am trying to go light so I am leaning towards the 24... Any i out would be appreciated.

Cheers and here is to burning some two stroke smoke

BK 24 sounds perfect to me. As a matter of fact, I need one pretty badly myself.

Although I really like the 24 (and wish I had one) you may want to consider 16 as its larger handle might work better when you're wearing gloves.

I'd say the 4oz isn't really a weight enough to deter me from picking the 16 over the 24. The extra inch on the blade, and 2.5 inches in the handle really make a big difference to me.

I'm sorry man, but I got to do this:

So, let me see if I got this. You are going to ride a skidoo someplace, park it and setup camp and party? And you only got room on your mental checklist for ONE knife? ONE? In Canada?

LOL, It won't matter what you pick, you are going to have a situation where you wished you had picked the other.

Weight be dammed, take both.

We will be staying at a cabin and doing day runs of about 10 hours. Snow conditions are great but I am driving a short track and plan on getting stuck... A lot. I have an axe for bigger issues and wanted a blade for some basic camp chores when we stop for lunch in the woods. I am trying to keep the weight to a minimum as I am carrying it on my back. I know there is not a lot of difference in weight between to 24 & 16 but I was looking for opinions as to which would be better for the trip in the best package so to speak... As for only carrying one knife I will have all bases covered... An axe... A fixed blade and my leatherman surge

If you're carrying it on your back, then definitely the 10, preferably with the 13 in the front pocket. Then you have the small and mid size blades covered.

My 13 is going to make the trip... That little blade is great... I don't count it as part of my inventory as it goes everywhere i do

I usually take my 2 when I ride, and my 14, or 11 usually comes along as well.
But I also don't go on Skidoo rides. I prefer Polaris, or Arctic Cat rides. ;)

I'd take the 16 if it were me.

Lol.. Sorry i used a generic term... I'm riding a arctic cat f570 ... I'll be back of the bus as the rest of the group are running 600 & 800 cross overs... I let them go first and beat the snow down a little so it is a bit easier for me. Until we hit the lakes then we all spread out and go flat out catching some air off the drifts... Gonna be an awesome trip ... Can't wait. I'll take some becker photos while on the trail.

I think I am going with the 16 in the pack and put the 24 in the chest pocket in my jacket.... Only in the event I fall behind and get left behind.

Nice!
My season is probably over since the warm weather turned everything to mush here.
Got my last ride last weekend, out on the lake getting air off the drifts too.
Have fun, and stay safe.

I took my 2 with me on my trip! Had my normal folders I pair with it under my suit.

Just finished packing my pack... It is an 8 ltr hydration pack with the bladder removed. It contains a fiskars x7 axe, folding saw, my stanley cook set, butane cylinder and burner, first aid kit, some fuel tabs, pocket fishing kit and some snare wire, about 100 feet of 550 cord, sol emergency bivvy sack, thermal blanket, some food, my becker bk 16 AND my bk 24 :D

I'll take a few pics of the blades on the trail
