Hey everyone,
I've recently gotten into the world of hunting and that has naturally led me to seek out a quality fixed blade manufacturer. So I'm here. To any of you enthusiasts who also hunt/butcher/field dress (and like to use a becker to do it) I'd love to hear some opinions about what blade or blades you choose and why. I just purchased the BK2(2) because it seemed like a great all around blade and a good place to start, but if I love it I'm sure all branch out to others. Cheers!

The 16, or 17 would probably be your best bet.
Although I've used my 11 "necker" to dress and skin whitetail before.

Your Two will work just fine but, you will probably enjoy the process more with a Sweet Sixteen....... The Eleven will also get the job done and cleanup is a snap........

Thanks for buying your Two........

All Best .....

I'm going to suggest the clip point on the 17, but a 16 will work fine too.

I will suggest the 16, drop point on a hunting blade is ideal for me. Keeps me from piercing the innards and making a mess.

The 5 and 15 paired together. The BK5 has been my primary butcher knife for going on 15 years and the BK15 is a smaller and more nimble version.

The 16, 11, and 24 work great for skinning and basic game processing duties.

When I get home I use the 5 and 15 to slice up the meat for the freezer.

I bought the 2 for an all around camp/skinning/ in the woods knife, it's been a great around the camp /In the woods knife.
Hope to get it bloody this weekend, we'll see how it goes.

The 24 would be my suggestion, D2 is one of the best steels ever for cleaning game.

I second this. A BK24 with zytel scales is you best option in a Becker IMO. Fairly comfortable in hand, more rust resistant than other options, and a thinner/better slicer type blade. Also D2 in my experience holds a working edge longer than 1095.
With that said, if you don't have the knowledge (or someone to teach you) of where to place your fine delicate cuts to avoid a mess when field dressing, then get a BK9 and have at it! -j/k

I used my 24 for boning out a pair of deer this year - worked great, but I'd probably have been happier with the 16.

Like "the man" himself said: BK16

I used my 17 a bit but found that the clip wasn't really necessary for Field Dressing deer (that all I do) and the 16 holds a special place in my heart. Either will do IMO.

I really liked the way my 16 worked this year. I used it to dress, skin, and butcher this one. Worked great. Blade shape is right, and its long enough without being too long, if that makes sense.

Sorry if that pic is too large - used photobucket from my phone.

MOCraig, that pic is great. Did you get a second one with the knife out of the sheath leaning against the deer? Maybe you should shoot promos.

Cant get any better then that Beckers and bucks !

I'm about ready for bow season to start again....after all it did end about 2 monthes ago. :o

I used my BK2 to field dress 3 deer last season! It'll serve you fine but id probably get a 16 if I was to choose another for cleaning game.

I've dressed squirrels w/ my BK9 and fish with my BK2 just because I can but IMO, far and away the best field dressing Becker is the BK11 (or 14 if you like the handle better). BK16 is ok - I've done squirrels with that too, but when you are up to your elbow in a deer's chest cavity and you can't see what you're doing, it's nice to have a blade that's a little shorter. I lay my index finger along the spine of the blade while I'm working up in there so I always know exactly where I'm cutting.

The shorter blade is handier (IMO) for small game as well.
