I finally figured out how to put a bevel edge on both sides of a blade with a file, now I’d like to make it a lot sharper what grits/ devices should I be using? Also hat is the cheapest machete to learn on?

I like Tramontina. Also, I just maintain the edge with swipes from a file. My machetes get the edges banged up pretty regularly, so a file is my go-to.

If I was to put a fine edge I use a 120-240 grit silicon carbide stone with WD-40 swarf.

Someday I buy a cheap kukri and use a file for a bevel edge the bring it up with a lanky puck since a canoe file and grit stone were fails for me.

Use a file to start. I suggest scythe stones for finer sharpening of machetes rather than a puck. About 120-240 ANSI does a good job of erasing file marks. You can jump up to about 400 from there.

When you get tired of the file tang poking holes in your pocket, order a pink bull thistle stone from Benjamin. I did and I’m very pleased.

I still use a bastard file to fix bad edge damage.
