I have a 2x42 grinder. I have been using some 60 grit aluminum oxide for stock removal. I have gone through like 3 belts and still do not have the job done.
Is there some belts out there that fit my 2x42 that work better for taking major metal off.
Thanks

I'm guessin that the 3M 984 Cubitron II's would be at the top for crazy hogging. But for the type of grinder you have, try ceramics like Frank said and try amlumina zirconia or "zirconia" belts.. check our supergrit, I know they have belts that size for zirconia here http://www.supergrit.com/products/products_belts-zirconia.asp and some "cheaper" (but still effective) ceramic belts here http://www.supergrit.com/products/products_belts-ceramic.asp, they should work great especially in the lower grit numbers, like 60. 40, 36 etc. or even 24 :D Check out their other type of belts as well under the "belts" link on the left while your there. You can get different ones for different materials or different types of finishes, like cork belts or scrotchbrite belts etc. hope that helps ya some :)

Tru-Grit has some 2x42 belts they call their "Best Value Ceramic". They are inexpensive and come in a 36 and 60 grit for hogging. I've never used them but I imagine they would be vastly better than A/O belts for serious stock removal.

I use the 60 grit Best Value Ceramic and the 60 grit Blaze Plus Ceramics from TruGrit for my 2x42 with great results.

The best value from Tru-Grit is made by Merit, Another St Germain brand like Norton.
I've used themm in 2 x 72 and they are an excellent value in a Ceramic belt. Get them in the lowest grit possible for hogging off steel. 24 or 36 grit.

I haven't looked for belts in a while because I bought a bunch of various ones from people on here for my 2x42. If you can find them in the right size all the cool kids seem to like the Blaze ones but the cool kids are using them on 2x72's.
