Best Benchmade for me?

I am a police officer and looking for a EDC knife. I really like Benchmades and the AXIS locking system. I originally wanted an auto, but I think that I am going to stick with a non-auto. Some of the models that I have been looking at are the 942, 525, 520 and 420. Not having anywhere in the area to actually feel the knife, I am going to likely totally rely on other peoples impressions. I will probably carry the knife in a front uniform pants pocket unless I end up going with the 520 or 525 which I would carry in a sheath on my belt due to its reputation of eating pockets (however, my first desired method of carry is in my pants pocket). I am open to any suggestions on the above or any other BM's. Thanks

Try the 806 It's really a sweet knife with D2 steel and is very comfortable. That price is to high to pay for one though. Shop around. I have many Benchmades, I hold this in the highest regards.

Here's a better price, 806

Here's a great deal on a 710 if you don't mind the little scratches it has on the blade and if it don't get bid up to high.

Yeah i traded the 2 rats i found for cheap (100 and the other was 40, see the post in "rats demand primo prices on ebay") for about 10 knives, including this one. What a great deal! I got 3 benchmades, 2 spyders, 2 BK, 1 EK, 1 cuda maxx, 1 marbles loveless approved, 1 wild boar, and a SRK. Yeah, I see the irony and it's beautiful. :)

Also looking at the Griptilians.....are these decent?

I would recommend one of them. You can find pretty much any blade type/style you wish. As an officer, I assume you'll use your knife hard and I find carrying a $100+ knife on me I rarely used it for tough tasks, even though it was designed for that. Buy a cheap (but good quality) knife as a user.

I currently carry a BM Mini Pika (around $25) and I like it a lot. Good design and when I finally snap it in half I wont care. With its low ride clip I dont think it would be good for your type of work, as it takes a bit more effort to get it out of your pocket.

BM Griptillian is my vote.

Griptilians are THE best bang for the buck out there in my opinion.

Where else can you get a premium steel folder with a super strong lock (Axis), great handles, and also made in the USA, for a price that everyone can afford?

I'm currently carrying a 556 Mini-Griptilian with a 154CM blade. It's a great knife and I am very happy with it. ;)

I agree, this probably your best bet here.

Yes they are. It has the same 154CM steel just like the more expensive models, it is also lighter, and you can chose from three blade styles. BTW take a look at the Ares and the Heckler & Koch line too. Anyway, I think every aforementioned Benchmade models are excellent, but I think the 942 is a bit too flimsy for your purposes.

You're a cop, right?

So, I think you should get a Benchmade 610 Rukus and call it "Officer Rukus".

Anytime you need to get info from a local perp, just threaten to break out Officer Rukus.

I imagine holding Officer Rukus while saying "we are both the bad cop" will get a lot of information very fast.

Have you looked at the Ritter Grpitilians or Mini-grips? They are most excellent. How about a Spyderco D'Allara DP (It is named after a NYPD Officer that died on 9/11) It is a beefy knife!! It can be open and closed on handed, like an Axis lock. (Spyderco has the ball bearing lock.) Or a Spyderco Military, Para Millie, or Manix?! That Officer Rukus was tooooooo funny!! Thanks for the laugh!!

Sounds like the Griptilian wins. I am not going to likely make a purchase until later in the week so if anyone else has any other suggestions please let me know. Thank you.

I carry the 806d2 while on duty, and it's a great knife. The problem is that it roughs up your uniform pocket after some time. The 710d2 is also one of my favorites, but with the same problem. I usually clip it inside my shirt directly above the belt buckle, stays real nice, even when running. You really can't go wrong with benchmade. Stay safe.

How much are you looking to spend?

Anway, 710 is a great knife that I would reccomend.

I want to spend about $100, but I can go slightly over. I found a 710 online for $113 at newgraham.com.
