Best blade blank for spearhead? (steel type, tang type, etc.?)

Hi all,

I decided that I wanted to make a spear out of a blade blank and bamboo or waxwood pole. I don't want a heavy ash shaft and cast iron head because that would be prohibitively heavy and wouldn't work with type of rapid feints and jabs that i want from lightweight, agile spear. (what i'd ever use this spear for i have no idea -- but i know i want it light and fast.)

With that said, what blade blank would be suitable for a spearhead? I was thinking along the lines of a Mora blank with a 6 inch blade from Ragweed.

Now I'm starting to think of what the best type of steel would be for a stabbing spear. And what type of tang? I figure both full tang and rat tail would be equal difficulty in terms of inserting it into a shaft, so would you think a spearhead would require the added strength of a full tang?

I'm sorry if this question seems extremely odd, but i can't shake the need to make my damn spear!

I've also looked at Cold Steel's spearheads and already decided that they're a bit heavy and bulky for my taste. Thanks in advance!

personally: i'd get an old leaf-spring from a car at the tip and go wild making my own.

or some kind of double-edged push-dagger might do the trick.

you could even look at commerically available archery broadheads. some of those are pretty beefy and very strong.
