A blade made of ZDP 189 laminated between A9 or S7 would make an awesome knife, don't you guys agree?

An awesome blade for what?

ZDP189 is very hard, and potentially brittle, so I wouldn't want to chop with it. S7 would be better for heavy use.

All the steels you mention corrode easily, so I'd rather use a stainless like 420J or VG2 for the outer layers.

I think Fallkniven have got the super steel in a laminated blade right: SGPS between VG2.

ZDP-189 seems to be an enigma. It is very high in carbon and seems to generally be hardened to about RC 67, yet it is reported to remain very tough and is supposedly not brittle.

I really only know what I have read about this steel. I hear that Spyderco is going to have a couple of models that use this steel. I might just have to pick one up and give it a try.

The craziest thing about zdp189, is that it's supposed to be really easy to sharpen also. So aside from being super hard, it has an extra fine grain structure? I really want some stats released on this stuff.
Oh, and for the perfect blade, I would want Devon Thomas damascus on the outside.

Actually, on hattori's japanese website, they show sharpy results for the ZDP-189, and compare it to ATS-34 at 60 Rc, while the ZDP is at 67. The ATS-34 is much tougher, so anyone saying that it is just as tough as anything else at 60 Rc, while it's at 67 would be wrong. It's probably useable as a kitchen knife, properly cared for of course.

Sorry, I forgot to post it up, and in case anyone noticed, I mean charpy, not sharpy. :) http://www.hatta.co.jp/zdp.html The charpy results are near the bottom where it has ZDP - 8.2, and ATS-34 - 21.2. Now, I don't know a lot of Japanese, but as far as I can tell, it says charpy at the top of the chart thing.
