Best bone or antler handle per se?

I recently had the good fortune to buy an awesome 18 M43 and 15 BAS. I Had ordered a WWII but they were on back order. So the fine lady offered up the M43 to sub out. What a Kukri, I repeat what a Kukri. But you guys know this stuff.

Before I let this compulsion die down for a bit, I still want to order the WWII. However, I now want it built in all silver with white bone handle. Any feedback on this thought process is appreciated. Is any bone more desirable over another?

I am so impressed with these pieces, HI is everything you guys touted. Thanks for your feedback.

Giraffe bone is used a lot, because it is so dense, and it doesn't seem to crack from normal use. To me stag is the best antler. It looks the best, and has a more consistent density from the outside to the center.

I really don't know what the kamis have available to them.

They in the past have had access to American Elk and Deer antler and of course have their own deer.

I seem to recall Auntie telling me they can no longer send antlers over to them but that memory is a bit vague.

I've never heard of giraffe bone on their kukri's but that don't mean it can't happen, it's strong and dense too.

A Mustang knive I got from Auntie recently had Yak bone in the handle, quite nice too.

I knocked the wood handle off my Micro AK Bowie and put Elk Antler handles, very pleased with how that turned out and I carry that one daily.

I believe you memory is correct Bawanna. No imported antler for Nepal. Their deer antler is some really nice stuff. I have a few pieces. I dont know how big they get but if you could find a piece big enough for a full size Khukri handle I suppose it would look very nice. Bashpati comes to mind.

Himalayan Giraffe?

I think the huge solid buffalo horn is hard to beat....generally no weak spots and almost as a modern composite with grain, so any cracks very very predictable and repairs are truly repairs when done properly...

I have quite a few collectible hi-$ sambar stag knives old and new, and as pretty as it is, for a hard user i love the horn...

i've heard of some bone handles being a bit brittle & breaking under hard use. of course the models with bone handles are normally not used hard. i love stag grips on sharp pointy stuff. unlike bone, wood, or horn, ive never heard of a stag grip cracking.

Neither have I. I've used knives with stag for years.

i'm a sucker for sdtag handles on knives, if i have an option, that;'s what i'd go for every time.

this little gambler's bowie/dirk in tool steel cleaned up nice after i gave it a good clean.
