Any suggestions. I'm interested in finding a cheap way to start making blades as a hobby.

Step-By-Step Knifemaking : You Can Do It! By David Boye is one of the first knife making books I ever read and I still enjoy it. It has a lot of information about basics of knife making. I also suggest both of Wayne Goddard’s books.

$50.00 Knife shop is probably one of the best books on knife making I have ever read. It keeps everything very basic so you don't have to run out and buy a bunch of expensive equipment and allows you to grow at your own speed.

I also like How to make Knives by Lovelass and Barney.

The Wonder of Knife Making by Wayne Goodard is also great. Really good ideas that will safe you a heap of cash.

I also included the following links with great information on tutorials by various knife makers incase you haven't seen them.

The first thing you need to do before you do any thing is decide on the method of heat treating your blade. This will determine the type of steel you will use. Next keep your design simple and small for your first projects. All the books mention are good reading but you will have to have the desire to finish off the knife. First knives take along time to complete and are very exspensive to make.
