I have a galaxy s4 phone that got recently and bought some spare factory batteries from a guy in the states off flea bay that won't stay charged for longer than 3hrs. So hoping somebody has gone through a couple or could just recommend a extended life battery brand they are impressed with. Please and thank you.

How many times have you cycled them? New lithium batteries often won't take a full charge until you've cycled them a few times.

I've got a Zerolemon 3000mAh battery for my S4, and it works great. Same size as the OEM 2600mAh, but 15% more capacity. The trade-off is that there's no NFC chip. I've also got a 7800mAh Anker battery/case, but this thing makes the phone a brick. Mainly, I keep it around in case I need a wifi hotspot away from a plug socket for a long time. The 5200 or 5800mAh extended batteries by Anker or Hyperion are basically double-thick, whereas the bigger ones have a much larger battery slapped on top of the regular sized one. Thus, the case thickness will be about the same, but weigh less.

Anker, Hyperion, and Zerolemon all get glowing reviews on Amazon.

I think you either got hosed with used or knockoff batteries, or there's something going on with the phone that's causing excessive drain. Did you do a factory reset when you got the phone? What apps are using all the juice?

This is actually not the case with lithium rechargeables. It was true with NiCads, but lithiums don't need "conditioning" like NiCads did.

I think the batteries you got were probably duds, if they are lasting far less than your original one does. If they are NiMh then it could be that they are old and have been in storeage too long?

I prefer an external pack to an internal one, but there are a few good brands out there for batteries, the ones planterz mentioned seem to be reputable. If you are looking at external packs, some use batteries from LG and those seem to get good reviews.

Had know idea about that. Probably 5-6 times I think. I had supposedly "factory" batteries for my GS3 and they wouldn't hold a charge in constant use for more than 2hrs so figured (and kinda still thinking) was the situation for. It seems it really just varies from seller to seller how well the batteries will hold their charge. I think they make "cloned" factory batteries that are probably just some knock off replacement. I'm not sure though as not tech savoy in the least.

Thanks for all the info. I don't know much about this stuff as have never even heard of these or the cases that will give you an extra power supply until rescently. And think your both right about the clones or duds. It just seems to either be hit or miss with buying batteries on ebay. Rescently misses. I'll look into those you suggested planterz. Weight really ain't an issue if the trade off is longer battery life. I have a mophie case right now that has a recharge switch on it and it is heavy but that recharge feature is so nice don't mind.. Thanks guys.

It could be that they are bad fakes. It's really hard to find non-fake batteries on eBay or even Amazon. And when something decent appears, a bunch of sellers start to list fakes.

So the key is probably more who you buy it from, rather than the supposed brand name. Kind of like knives - buy from a reputable vendor.

Most recently, I had good luck with Maeline batteries on Amazon US.
