Best Busse for Hunting (dressing game)?

I have looked through the various Busse models and am wondering what those with practical experience would recommend as the best for hunting purposes. To me, it looks like the straight handled Badger Attack with its full belly would be ideal. There doesn't seem to be many 3.5-4.5 inch drop point blades with a full belly among the many Busse knives....The Game Warden would almost be perfect, but might be just a bit small....Any ideas?

Most of my 'game' comes in white paper, but my recommendation would be to get a BAIII as a utility knife and the Dozier of your choice to dress with.

I prefer a Badger Attack III, but the new Badger may be good for this, too! :D

Most of my whitetail chores are handled with a <4inch blade, but one of my hunting buddies likes to use his Hell Razor, and it works well... I like a smaller, thin blade for caping, but I'm sure I could do as well with my SHSH, just a little slower to make sure I don't get 'me' in the process... :)

So, my opinion is that it's what you prefer... Here is my hunting partner!

Yeah, the earlier badger attack looked to be just the ticket. Now, where to get one?!? Seems these are one of the hardest to find models....

I'm wondering if the new anniversary model (steel heart) with a shortened blade might work well too???

Seems like the the Pork Belly Skinner (note the word 'skinner' in the name) would be ideal for a field dressing/skinning knife

I always carry 2... A big "chopper" for camp / blind chores (Battle Mistress Ergo) and then a smaller skinner / utility (Game Warden).

The Game Warden will handle anything in that second category (as long as you have a bigger blade or saw to handle big bone, etc.) I wouldn't feel under-knifed w/a GW at my side at all.

The ABA I'm sure would be a great choice -- if I could ever get my hands on one  They're pretty tough to come by right now, but would be worth looking for sure.

I've also skinned w/my Leaner Meaner Street and it worked fine. But it's quite "pointy" and not a lot of belly, so the GW gets the skinner nod now.

I've never tried a Pork Belly Skinner, but that's a dedicated skinner and many say it works like a champ. You could make out well with that in your pack and a bigger blade like a Satin Jack / Hell Razor / or Steel Heart on your hip...

Good Luck!

OK, so the Badger Attack III in one configuration or another seems to be the ticket....Now, to find one....I have a feeling it would be easier to find a 12 point buck than this knife!

Has anyone actually field dressed a deer with a Game Warden?

Haven't done any dressing of big game (whitetails) with my Game Warden, but I did field dressed a couple of rabbits last weekend. Worked like a charm. In a pinch I would use it for deer, but I'd prefer something larger.

That said, let me preface this with the fact that what I'm about to say may be slightly sacrilegious, but at least I'm staying in the "family". You may want to look into the Swamp Rat line. I think that the Generation I or II Howling Rat (and even the new LM) would work great. The blade has quite a bit of belly with a shape similar to that of the GW. With the grippy Resiprene-C handle, slips shouldn't be a problem. And clean-up would be a snap. I got my HR at the end of deer season here so I couldn't give it a test run. But I certainly intend to put it to good work next season. They are fairly easy to come by on the exchange and a hell of a lot cheaper than a BA or ABA. I wouldn't cry over a lost Howler, but I would slit my wrists over a lost Badger.:( :p

I did see the Howling Rat and indeed, it does look perfect...I was hoping to get some of that INFI though as it is suppose to be the holy grail....

Thanks for all the suggestions.....

I haven't actually used one, but the Groove Master looks to me like a dedicated skinning design.

I second the Groove Master. It is the skinner of the Busse family in my opinion. You can choke up on it for tight work and it has enough blade to get the job done. Ideal for that purpose honestly. I have had one for years.

I'm just not a big fan of the groove master blade shape....no doubt it would do the job though....

A buddy of mine used a Anorexic Badger Attack to field dress a caribou. Worked like a charm :)

There's also the sow belly skinner
