Best CAN OPENER I've ever used

I've been using one of these for years and wondered if I am the only one. It removes the lid cutting from the side of the top rim so no sharp edge and the lid will not fall into the can. You have to get used to positioning the opener parallel to the top of the can, instead of the usual perdendicular. This opener takes about the same effort as the traditional.

However, I've never had a failure, cam out, or other partial opening. It stays on the top during cutting until you remove it or the top comes off. Brilliant, simple and elegant. I've seen variations for $10. Mine, older, is all steel.

I've got a similar one to yours from OXO that works the same. I really like it and ditched my electric model. It's so much cleaner in use and I can put the whole thing in the dishwasher when I need to sanitize it.

Funny, but my wife doesn't ever seem to learn how to use it. I must open every can in our kitchen. I like the better engineering, safer result and you have a good point that it is much cleaner. You don't have to dig the top out of the can and its contents like you must with the old style opener every so often.

However, you can't use the opened lid to squeeze out the water from a can of tuna.

It's probably similar to how I've never learned to properly load the dishwasher. :D

We've been using one of that type for several years in our house. It's great because you can use the top as a lid on half-finished cans (dog food:D ).

I also have the OXO version. I like opening cans much better since I bought it.
