I've been using one of these for years and wondered if I am the only one. It removes the lid cutting from the side of the top rim so no sharp edge and the lid will not fall into the can. You have to get used to positioning the opener parallel to the top of the can, instead of the usual perdendicular. This opener takes about the same effort as the traditional.
However, I've never had a failure, cam out, or other partial opening. It stays on the top during cutting until you remove it or the top comes off. Brilliant, simple and elegant. I've seen variations for $10. Mine, older, is all steel.
