Just for fun, What do you think have been the best chainsaws?

I'll start;
In my (rather limited) experience I would say the Homelite Super XL-12 Auto, Dolmar 6400/7900 (Makita 6401), and Efco 156 (Deere CS56).

From what I have read out on the internets I'd expect to see maybe Husky 372xp, Homelite 925, Stihl 028 AV super, Dolmar 5100...

I had a Stihl 026 and hated it. Pretty much soured me personally on the brand.

Seen Huskys in action and they look to perform good. They seem a little overly pricey though.

Personally, I think the only saw I would consider purchasing new now days is a Dolmar.

Don't think you can buy Dolmar in Canada. If you check their dealer finder you don't get any hits across Western Canada.

Isn't Dolmar Makita now?

I’ve had a Stihl a couple years now. No complaints whatsoever. Great saw.

Born and raised in a logging town, Stihl reigns supreme here.

My two brothers have been logging for decades and swear by Stihl. I even get their hand-me-down saws, which is cool. I've had sizes up to the 044, which was just too much saw for me. Right now I've got two MS310 saws that just won't quit.

And if they quit, my younger brother is a saw mechanic. :D

I have a Stihl 028 Wood Boss that I received when a doctor friend of mine was THROWING IT AWAY. I was at his house and I saw the orange case out by his trash cans, and I asked him why he was throwing the case away. He said the saw was broken.

I took it home, found out that the recoil pawl was broken, and $5 later I had an awesome saw. I have had it for around 25 years now and it has not let me down, still starts right up and has plenty of power.

Not my vid, but just like my saw.

Well right now the three faves i own are my ported and masterminded stihl 461, ported masterminded husky 346 xp, my 372 xp i ported. I really been wanting a stihl 261c so i may have to start saving. Saws are a hobby i have and its really expensive here is my 461 on my f250 tailgate with a 32 inch bar. Currently it has a 28 inch total super lightweight on it. Resized_20180310_032549.jpeg

Daaaang! That's bigger than Dads.

I have a Stihl 029 Farm Boss that has been excellent.

Anybody know about the Jonsered brand? I’ve seen them at one of the tractor type stores recently.

Years ago, many years ago, I lived in Western N.Y. near of Buffalo. I used to heat with firewood only. I'd have to get about 20 face cord a year out of a state forest. I always had a 20" Stihl and a Mini Mac with me. I have to say though on one of my wood hunts a friend of mine brought a Husqvarna. When he fired it up I flinched at the sound of pure power. All our saws performed without issues but that sound is burned in my memory.

Jonsered is part of the Husqvarna Group and is a quality saw, pretty much the same as a Husqvarna but different casing and handles.

Thanks for the info on Jonsered.

When the fuel shortage happened back in the early 70s, my Dad bought a Homelite saw and put 2 wood stoves in our house. We heated the house with wood only for many years until he decided to go over to a gas furnace (conveniently when I went off to college!). That saw cut all of our firewood for all those years. It’s been used ever since then for supplemental wood to help get through the very coldest parts of the winters.

All the casings and handles on that saw are cast aluminum and it’s still going. Homelite doesn’t seem to be what it once was, but that saw has gone above and beyond!

Dang Goose! Bar envy.

The 261C is the one I ended up getting. Running an 18” bar with a 3/8 chain on it they swapped for me when I bought it. If I did more cutting I might “hot rod” it for some more performance, but it has been fine as is and super reliable.
