Best cheap boot knife?

How cheap do you mean? Also, 4" overall for a boot knife is a little restrictive. You are more in neck knife territory with that length

Ya, I guess it all depends on what your definition of 'cheap' is.

Cold Steel counter tac 1 has been working pretty good for me

i carry daily and really like the American blade AB- 28 also the American Blade AB -29

one of the toughest and can still be found < $50 in great shape, Parker Cut. Co Bi Bevel boot knife, Seki City Japan.

all listed have a blade < 3.5 inches with the Parker etching out at 3.0 inches of razor edges .

???? does anyone know anyone on site that makes sheaths for any of the models I have mentioned ??? thanks and 100% of this is only my knowledge from carrying all 3 at least 1000 days each. To each his own. I wear cowboy, wellington and lace-up boots, all with comfort and no fear of loosing knife.

Ag russell sting. One piece solid 1080 carbon steel just put some bedliner or texture the grip and your good.

I can make either a leather boot knife sheath or a kydex sheath for a parker boot knife, I have many of these boot knives and have made sheaths for them before. These knives were made by Kinryu the same maker of SOG and many Cold Steel knives and they were made of AUS6A. So same steel and maker as the SOG Seal 2000.

Western W77. Case makes a nice boot knife, too, but it can get pricey. Kabar has their 2750 and 2751 series, too

What exactly might you use a boot knife for that has an overall length of less than 4"? Most of the neck knives are larger than that.

Preferably not more than 4 inches overall.

Assuming you want fixed blades, five that come to mind (all having served me well) from cheap to $100:
Kershaw Amphibian or Secret Agent

Becker BK-11 or 24

Tekna Ocean Edge

Original HEST fixed blade by Rowen

Gryphon M-10

WAIT, 4" overall you say?? On that one I can't help you.....

I 2nd the counter tac. Japan made in vg1. Super sharp almost cuts you just looking at it.

Preferably not more than 4 inches overall.

At that diminutive length, I can recommend the Spyderco Cricket if we're talking folders or the Cold Steel Super Edge for a fixed blades. Neither are very expensive, and the quality of each is great.
