That's hard to say without knowing the mission. The RS has a Kraton handle, the BK-7 has the typical hard, hand-filling Becker handle. Both great carbon steel blades. (Both probably made by the same company ) It's a very close decision to make. If you're happy with one, you'd probably be happy with the other. If you go for the RS, check out Cold Steel's "seconds" and get it at a much reduced price.

CS RS is heavy, weight forward, fat edged like a Busse Basic 7 - only more so. Indestructable.
BK7 is lighter, nice balance, thinner (more useful) edge - near perfect knife once you blast the scales.
Get the RAT7.

I would buy another BK7 in a heartbeat. Good design, steel, balance, handle, geometry, edge, and price. Great value.

The Cold Steel Recon series is a great combat knife. Out here in Michigan, it has created a major buzz among military active personel. They luv the damn thing. Especially the Recon Tanto.

I havn't really been able to do a compare/contrast of both, though, nor am I too sure that my military buddies have.

But, I'll reinerate, the CS Recon knives are great.
