Hello all... long time lurker but this is my first post.

I am looking at the CRKT M16 line and I love the looks and want one. So my question is...

if you were going to get one... which one is the best to get..? mostly in terms of blade steel.. I know some are made with AUS-6 and AUS-4 which sucks balls and then theres the AUS-8 which is what I'm looking for.

Pref a spear-point version with plain edge.

any reccomnedations as the best one to get in that line..?

Best,

Brian James

You don't have many options for a plain edged spear point M16 with an AUS 8 blade. There is the M16-03 which is the medium size with aluminum handles and there are the varius small size M16-01. In those, models ending with K or KE have black or green aluminum handles, T has titanium and F has carbon fiber. The carbon fiber models have AUS 118 blades. I think that covers them all.

M1613 titanium with AUS8 blade, plain edge. Thats what I want. I am now in the realm of Sebenzas and Striders. Still would like to get a titanium M1613 PE.

Basically, all the M16s with metal handles are AUS8.

Those with Zytel handles are AUS4.

That's according to www.crkt.com

My favorite, and of course everyone has their view, is the M16-03, mentioned by flip already in this thread.
It's the medium size with aluminum handles, LAWKS (not AutoLAWKS), AUS8, spearpoint, and available at a really good price if you look around.

M 16-01T meets your criterai, though is slightly smaller than the average m16.. 3.125'' vs 3.5''

There is no M16-13T plain edge. If the 1st number after the 16 is a "0" then it is a plain edge. If it is a "1" then it is a partially serrated edge.

I own 3 CRKT M16s and out of the 3 my most used and in my opinion best is the M16-01KZ (I like the look as well).

In the last two months our companies best seller is the M16-13SF (but most people buy military looking knives).

I'd like an M16-03T also. I wish they made one. An M16-02T would also be on my "wish they made that" list.

As mentioned before you need to go with aus 8 if possible. you might consider a M21, basically the same design, aus 8, and a spear point. it is as big as a house but it's a dandy. good luck, ahgar

By george I think you've already got it. Seems like all of the AUS8-bladed M16's are of good quality. Been some reports of hit-or-miss quality with the AUS4-bladed models. Find an AUS8 model that strikes your fancy and go for it.

Check out the M21 series.

M21-04 Large
M21-02 Medium Plain Edge

M21-14 Large
M21-12 Medium Combo Edge

M16-01T Small Plain Edge
M16-13T Medium Combo

All are spear points w/AUS8 stainless blades.

the M16-T titanium folders are imho superior not only to other M16s but superior to most if not all other CRKTs, ti handle, decent steel, good design, not a bad knife imho, i have had a couple which ended up swapped for one thing or another, but i wouldnt mind having another.

While breezing through eBay listings, I was dumbfounded to see that the M16-01T, the tiniest of the titanium knife series, often goes for more than the larger models. Why that is, I don't know, but it's a great little knife to give to a boss or to an executive. It's strange, though. When I first got into locking knives, a 3-inch blade looked HUGE; however, now they seem very small. The 01T looks absolutely tiny.

The M16-01T is a demure plain-edged knife with
a silvery polished frame of titanium.

I like mine. It just needs a little loctite on the adjustment screw - mine loosens in the pocket. The LAWKS is almost automatic in use, it might have well have been Auto. The flipper is just the right size and shape.

My first Ti knife and the start of the whole problem . . .

sweet... thanks guys...

I'll keep an eye out for the Ti model and also the black aluminum handle one.

thanks for everyones input!

Best,

Brian James

if ya can find one the carbon fibre handle ones also have the better steel, they are cool looking too.

ya occasionally see one for sale in the sales/swaps forum.
