Just thought I would show a recent arrival...but one I've been anticipating for awhile :D

Eduardo Berardo and I had been kicking around the idea of an integral dagger for a year or so now, and now here she is:

As you can see, this is a LARGE dagger - almost a "short sword" - and it was the winner of the BEST DAGGER at the inaugural International Cutlery Show in Sao Paulo Brazil about 2 weeks or so ago.

The judge for the contest was no less than our own Jerry Fisk!

Mammoth scales, and an alligator insert sheath with damascus frog. Just a beautiful ladder pattern and overall fantastic execution.

Eduardo is really a great guy to work with as well

Another beautiful example of Eduardo's work! He really is a super nice guy who makes some pretty wicked blades. Congrats Bill!

Congrats on a stunner, Bill, fantastic Dagger package !
...and to Eduardo on the award !
Any size specs ?

Doug

Very impressive piece indeed - has a bit of a Gladius look to it. Congrats on the knife and a round of applause for Eduardo on the award - well done!

Bring to Ashokan, please. :)

Doug

about 16.5" overall, with the blade just about 11" on the nose.

Roger

sure, I'll bring it to Ashokan..perhaps with a couple siblings....

Mike

yeah, well, as you can see I've been into daggers a bit lately - and I plan on the trend continuing :p

Apparently Jerry really loved this dagger, and spent a lot of time talking to Eduardo. From what I can tell, Jerry has really help push bladesmithing in Brazil, and there are ALOT of talented guys there

BEAUTIFUL!! Great style and that damascus is EXCEPTIONALLY nice!
Eduardo Berardo has shown a few knives on the forum and he does outstanding work.

Bill, you have a good piece there. It is for sure Mastersmith quality. He did some tuff stuff to do there. I looked really close in the cornors of the fit ups, the grinds, he nailed it exact. Simple is complicated to do if that makes sense. I was impressed.

The Sao Paulo show will move to the end of March from now on as I understand it. The show was set up really nice in the center of Brazils "wall street". The table arrangement was not in rows like normal but in 4 table pods with the traffic flowing around the pods. Good show. Their was some really good work displayed down there. Take a vacation, come on down to see what is going on.

Hello Bill. It was a great pleasure to hold this project together you. I consider this the best of my works. Technically it is a great challenge. And I was fully satisfied with the result. I enjoyed running and proportions. Besides the help of mother nature giving me an incredibly ivory colored.
Thank you. All the best!
I also want to thank the kindly words guys.
Especially to Mr. Fisk. For us Brazilians he is the Patron of Brazilian Custom Bladesmith.
Thanks a lot!

Bill,

Congratulations on a beautiful knife.

How is the balance?

Jim Treacy

That's a beauty Bill it looks solid as a rock and it has a bit of a roman fill to it nice score.

Jim

I am no expert on where a dagger "should" balance -perhaps Joe P can help us out !
This blade balances just a hair in front of the guard, and feels "right" to me. As has already been pointed out, this is toward the "gladius" side of dagger types rather than the "rapier" type.
