Wow! This has been an awesome day. Got my BK11 in the mailbox today. Took it out inspected it thoroughly and cut up a piece of cord for it to go 'round the neck. I started wrapping the handle and was really surprized that there was enough paracord to do the job. Next I contemplated all the mods I'm going to undertake to make it mine. BTW mod suggestions welcomed guys, y'all done it. Didn't even get a shot of it right outta the box :-(
My wife came in from hunting tired and sore from a bad neck/back so I showed her the knife and she was like "this is a pretty sweet knife" get your butt out hunting. So I went out to my stand and cut a piece off a downed tree and shoved it in my back pocket for later. Climbed the tree, pulled up my 7400 and took off myb jacket cuz it was 50+ degrees out. First few minutes I thought about that darn cabin GAW. Too late for this one-just relax-pull out the new BK11. Looks great especially with the wrap job. Pull stick out and make some shavings first. Then I started the feather stick portion of the afternoon. It was fun playing with the knife and quickly decided that I'm putting handles on. Maybe some sexy ones. After featherin up the stick a bit I sat and listened to my woods. What a wonderful day to be sitting high up in a tree looking over a beautiful hollow.
As light was fading the squirrels were fussing back and forth. I could hear them scurrying to their home trees and letting friends know they got there in one piece. With about 4 minutes left I heard the footsteps of something that stirred the hunter in me. Straining to identify the walker I happened to see movement about 150 yds away at the bottomof the hollow. Kept hearing ti but couldn't see it for a while and I thought it was going up the other side. Well, wasn't I surprised when it's walking right past me at 25 yds? I quick look at my phone for the time...17:11. One more minute left, oh wait I see horn. Shoot idiot shoot. That .30-06 made a big orange flame, the deer ran down and up the other side......nothing. So I unload cuz hunting time is over and head for home. My wonderful wife is waiting for me. She totally heard the shot. We grabbed a few things and went looking for the deer. Very easy trail even in the dark. Dragged it back up my hill and dressed it out WITH MY NEW BECKER BK11!
How freakin' awesome is that? It worked like a charm and totally smells like deer musk. I couldn't have payed for a better day than this. If this is what it's like being a BeckerHead dang straight I'm gonna be one. The pic is of me opening up the ceremonial Sierra Nevada Pale Ale next to the deer. Don't know if you can see my Kimber Pro Carry, but she came along just in case. Don't know if the BK11 is gonna get a shower tonight or let it smell like this for a while. I think it's gonna keep the smell for now.
Think my next one will be a BK7.
