Best Day Ever With My New BK11

Wow! This has been an awesome day. Got my BK11 in the mailbox today. Took it out inspected it thoroughly and cut up a piece of cord for it to go 'round the neck. I started wrapping the handle and was really surprized that there was enough paracord to do the job. Next I contemplated all the mods I'm going to undertake to make it mine. BTW mod suggestions welcomed guys, y'all done it. Didn't even get a shot of it right outta the box :-(

My wife came in from hunting tired and sore from a bad neck/back so I showed her the knife and she was like "this is a pretty sweet knife" get your butt out hunting. So I went out to my stand and cut a piece off a downed tree and shoved it in my back pocket for later. Climbed the tree, pulled up my 7400 and took off myb jacket cuz it was 50+ degrees out. First few minutes I thought about that darn cabin GAW. Too late for this one-just relax-pull out the new BK11. Looks great especially with the wrap job. Pull stick out and make some shavings first. Then I started the feather stick portion of the afternoon. It was fun playing with the knife and quickly decided that I'm putting handles on. Maybe some sexy ones. After featherin up the stick a bit I sat and listened to my woods. What a wonderful day to be sitting high up in a tree looking over a beautiful hollow.

As light was fading the squirrels were fussing back and forth. I could hear them scurrying to their home trees and letting friends know they got there in one piece. With about 4 minutes left I heard the footsteps of something that stirred the hunter in me. Straining to identify the walker I happened to see movement about 150 yds away at the bottomof the hollow. Kept hearing ti but couldn't see it for a while and I thought it was going up the other side. Well, wasn't I surprised when it's walking right past me at 25 yds? I quick look at my phone for the time...17:11. One more minute left, oh wait I see horn. Shoot idiot shoot. That .30-06 made a big orange flame, the deer ran down and up the other side......nothing. So I unload cuz hunting time is over and head for home. My wonderful wife is waiting for me. She totally heard the shot. We grabbed a few things and went looking for the deer. Very easy trail even in the dark. Dragged it back up my hill and dressed it out WITH MY NEW BECKER BK11!

How freakin' awesome is that? It worked like a charm and totally smells like deer musk. I couldn't have payed for a better day than this. If this is what it's like being a BeckerHead dang straight I'm gonna be one. The pic is of me opening up the ceremonial Sierra Nevada Pale Ale next to the deer. Don't know if you can see my Kimber Pro Carry, but she came along just in case. Don't know if the BK11 is gonna get a shower tonight or let it smell like this for a while. I think it's gonna keep the smell for now.

Think my next one will be a BK7.

Thanks guys! Excellent day to get my new knife. The beer was great. I can smell the knife right now around my neck...like the locker room at the hunting club. Just getting over 2 weeks of being sick so I'm ready to do some mod's this weekend. What should I start with? Strip it? Some file work? Shave my entire body? Kidding, just wanted to see if y'all were paying attention. What else can I do to it? I think I'm gonna round off the front finger area for more comfort. Guess that means I'll have to make a new sheath for it too. What d'ya think?

I think jimping for the thumb is a great mod. Strip and patina is a good way to go as well.

I did that to my BK13:

Congrats on the deer and BK-11. Mine's stripped, patinaed and wrapped with orange paracord. I've considered putting handles on it, but think I'm sticking with the wrap since it would be bulkier under my shirt with handles.

Pics or it didnt happen!

I have a set of black ash burl scales. Trying to figure out how to make them work right. Think they'll look awesome. Or I have some Vietnam era duffel bag scales that I made, that look like snakeskin when ground properly. What'd ya think? Jimping for sure. What's the best way to strip it? Grinding. chemicals, C-4? I am a knife maker so I have a full shop at my disposal.

Thanks. It's gutted, started through the hole closest to the blade, wrapped an end around the top and the other around the bottom and melted the ends flush after getting 'em through the bottom holes.

Nice job!
I saw six (you read correctly, six) deer I could have gotten a shot at this season, blew all of em. Three does the first day, dad was in between me and them. he refused to shoot, said somethin like " no I came to watch you shoot"
Cut to last day of muzzleloader season here. I was freezing, wanting to wrap it up and get warm, and 2 does and a buck come up right next to me. I was about to take a shot on the does, but I waited for the buck. they spooked.
Nice deer.Looks nice and dead. :D

Nice job on the deer. You did have a good day with your BK-11.

Here is my deer. I shot Thanksgiving morning.

Yeah Hawkeye5 I usually reserve this saying for when I need a good slapping from a woman, but Nice Rack! (SLAP!!!) Whew I needed that. What a great Thanksgiving for you. Thanksgiving is my favorite holiday by far. Not many expectations and you get to hunt without crap from anyone.

Yesteday I did a little jimping to the spine. Mod #1. Used a round needle file. Didn't want to use even the smallest chainsaw file, just a little too big. My wife forced me to mention that I actually had the knife in the shower cuz there was so much blood soaked into the paracord wrap. She said "OMG you better put this on the forum or I will" It was kept in the sheath so nothing would...gulp..get cut. It's shown with a few blades I have on the bench. Then I used it to cut out the tenderloins for New Years Eve supper with shrimp. Mmmmm Took it out to party but kept it on the dl.

I believe I'm going to take off the paracord wrap, afraid the dogs will chew it up from all the deer blood, and strip it next.
