I've been looking at various double bits in the 18in haft range, and I am struggling to find a good one that doesnt put me in triple digits.

Any suggestions?

I have a Reeves, but honestly it was pretty expensive to use. I have seen some cheap Chinese ones on the bay, but haven't got one yet. I also sometimes see old Collins come up, but the price on some of them have been upwards of 140. Marbles makes one (Chinese as well), but they are getting hard to come by.

What have you been looking at?

Keep watching the auction sites for Norlund Double bit. Nice little axe and they usually go for less than $100.00

I think it's the best bang for the buck. A lot of times they need to be re hafted but it makes for a nice DIY project. At least you know you're getting a quality tool in the end.

Ive looked at the NRA branded China hatchet, the Marbles, and the Condor...all are stainless, and I like carbon for impact tools...

I am not aware of any new small carbon steel double bits available. Other than the Reeves Custom.

I was going to say Condor as well....Just depends on what your looking for. the thunder bay is a nice small axe but I havent taken the plunge on one of there axes as its in 440C and I prefer a non-stainless in my axes.

There is a small Norlund on one of those auction sites right now for around $60.00 I will keep an eye on what it closes at.

Its a value at 60 to 80 but may hit 125+

You have to watch 5-10 auctions to get the one good one. I still think it is the best axe in its class for the money.
