What does everyone carry for a budget edc? I am a welder/fabricator by trade and im constantly grinding steel and aluminum, bad news for any of my OTF knives, I have had this Gerber swagger for about 5 years, for a work knife it can hold its own, durable construction with g10 handles and unknown knife steel...that does dull quickly, my only complaint. It may need a replacement someday so I thought id see what other people carry. All said and done it was worth $25.

What are your preferences?
Blade length?
Blade shape?
Lock type?
Handle material?
Tip up/down/left/right pocket clip?
Deep carry pocket clip?
Fixed or folding?

CIVIVI Brazen Drop Point:

14C28N – super tough, highly stainless, good edge retention
Full Flat Grind — slicey and strong
Multiple Deployment Options — fun
Liner Lock — simple to disassemble, strong
G10 Handle — strong and chemically resistant
Chamfered Handle — no hot spots
Stop Pins — side to side rigidity
Bearings — smooth action

Wow so many great choices! thanks everyone, I was mostly curious about what other sub $50 people carried more than replacing my current one but this thread has definitely got me looking.

I have not heard of CIVIVI, relatively new the knife world outside of the big names, thanks for the suggestion!

Cold Steel Voyager.
It’s not deep carry though. Pretty tough knife for about 50 bucks.

Ontario Rat 1 with a deep carry clip is gonna be about 60 bucks.

Kershaw Link with a deep carry clip is about 70 bucks.

At this point of my knife hobby, the only knives that I consider for under $50 are SAKs. Not trying to be snobby but I think up your budget to the $50-$100 range you have much more and better options, like Cold Steel Recon 1 and Code 4, Spyderco Delica 4 and Manix 2 LW.

Maybe not "best". But some of my favorites.

I'm just realizing that I don't have many knives under $60. These two, and maybe a Kershaw Strobe that I mostly keep for when I feel like having a folder to play with. Otherwise, most of it is between $60 and $120. Huh.

For a tougher build, I highly recommend the kershaw CQC series in D2. Not the smoothest or most perfectly built, but definitely tough and framelock, at great price...I've seen the D2 6k ones go for 35$ on sale...

Hey look, I didnt recommend a made a China knife lol

+1 on the Brazen drop point. Another to look at is the Civivi Riffle. About 5$ more than the Brazen and also in 14C28N but you can get it in micarta as well.
