can you advice me on a good pocket knife for EDC? It should be rather compact and lightweight and preferably without a blade lock since that could get me into some trouble (I live in Europe). It should be a distinct utility knife. I do have a couple of SAK:s (Spartan and Huntsman) but I would like something thinner. So, something small and compact that you would not even notice when carrying. Any suggestions? Thanks :)

Second vote for the Spyderco UKPK.

Just like a Delica, but with no lock (Europe-legal).

One-hand opening, pocket clip, extremely thin design, discreet carry options.

How about a Victorinox Soldier , if you have never had an alox handle SAK then your in for a treat .Even if you get another knife get one of these to as there not much to buy and you will love it .

alot depends on where you live in Europe. Some places are more restrictive than others. If you give the forum members a clue then they may be able to help better. Where is your location?

I'll second the alox Victorinox. If the soldier is too thick, try the pioneer settler. Very thin and light, very sturdy. Or the alox bantam, a knife and combo tool one layer thick.

Heck, you're in Europe, you can get all the neat models we can't get here!

Seriously, someone needs to tell the powers that be in Europe that a lock on a knife is a SAFETY! A locking blade is simply SAFER to use, period.
Any-Hoo good luck in your quest.
Cheers

What is the reasoning behind this law? How does a lock transform a knife into a weapon, in their minds?

I believe there are a few one layer SAK's that have only one or two blades and still have a full length handle.

That IS true, you can not have too many SAK's. I just meant that since he did mention that, he wanted something else. OOOOH, how about a one handed SAK?

Skalman, by your name I assume you live in Sweden as myself. At the moment I carry a Buck 307 Stockman together with a Victorinox explorer and mini champ. Wich I find is a good combination. Another great choice is the Fällkniven U2. Small, extremley sharp and it does lock.

Good slipjoints are hard to find in Sweden. Not many companies that sell anything more than Swiss army knives..:(

In short. The knife and weapons laws here state that you are not allowed to carry any knife or object to be used as a weapon in a public place. You are allowed to carry a tool if there is a need, such as a pocket knife, there is however no regulation on blade length, lock, fixed etc. Its supposed to have to the situation that dictates the need.
