What is the best Stockman for EDC? Taking into account fit and finish, edge holding, and not breaking the bank if it gets lost.

There ain't no best per se'. There is what I like, what all the other guys like, and what you'll like after you take the time to edjumakate yourself on the matter. Yes! It's gonna cost you money, maybe a lot of money, but edjumacation always comes at a cost as there are no free lunches included.

Well ok, here is mine, a case xx 1940-50's green bone, half wore out by me grandpa cause it was his EDC! Its got it all!!... and, l'd ever lose it!

For a current production stockman, either a CASE Chrome Vanadium (only comes in amber bone or yellow delrin) or a Queen D2 (small, med or cattle king sizes) in either delrin or bone. Affordable, easily replaceable, and very good performers. Pick your size and color and enjoy!

I have to agree. If you're going sight-unseen, Queen's the safer bet. However, if ease of sharpening is your game, and you have the chance to look (or have someone look for you), Case is the king.

I'd say try to snag an 80's era Winchester off of eBay. They usually can be had for under the $50 price point (I've picked them up as low as $27 mint), carbon steel blades and typically great fit and finish.

Here's a few of mine, all get carried and used and will rival just about any current production slip made.

Umm, Schrade if you can find one in Delrin/cs. Works great for me.

Generally speaking I edc a schrade of some type but with the closing of the Schrade factory I have become very concious of the possibility of losing one. I've only ever lost one knife in nearly 30 years of carry and it still ticks me off.
I don't mind shelling out a few dollars to replace an edc but the liklihood is that Scrades are going to be increasingly difficult to find over the next few years.

My advice, for what its worth, is this. Pick up a couple of Schrade 8OT or 34OT stockmen off ebay. The 2 knives should only set you back about 60$ or so if you buy new ones. You'll have one to carry and a backup.

If thats not what you want, I'd go with a Case CV stockman.

Don't overlook knives by Boker or Bulldog, good stuff in carbon steel. Can usually be had in some nice scale materials that you can't get from Case.
